Job summary

Bridgeport Public Schools is seeking a Cheerleading Coach at Harding High School for the 2026-2027 school year. The role includes organizing practices, coordinating tryouts, and teaching routines while ensuring student safety and sportsmanship.

CHEERLEADING COACH – HARDING HIGH SCHOOL
STIPEND: $2,905

The Cheerleading Coach is responsible for coaching student athletes in competitive cheerleading techniques to prepare them for events and or competition. The position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport. The Coach is responsible for setting and conducting practice times after academic classes and supervising the team at games, camps and any other activity where the team cheers.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and run effective warm up, practices and games.
  • Attend tryouts, practices, games, competitions, and cheer camp.
  • Assess skills and assign team positions.
  • With the Athletic Director, maintain a regular practice schedule and organize practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Create, clean, and/or teach routines.
  • Coach and instruct cheerleaders, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observe cheerleaders during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provide proper supervision and discipline of students at all times.
  • Have current CPR and first aid certification.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an injury.
  • Conference with the Athletic Director and parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of and/or disciplinary actions taken with students.
  • Follow state, regional, and CIF regulations governing the program.
  • Model positive sports-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards cheerleaders, officials, and spectators.
  • Promote a spirit of cooperation and friendship between the cheerleaders and the dance team.
  • Keep on hand eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records as provided by the Athletic Director.
  • Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Encourage cheerleaders to participate in other campus events and service projects.
  • Help plan and facilitate group and morale-building activities for the team.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Athletic Director or other appropriate administrators.

Qualifications
  • Minimum High School Diploma Required.
  • CT SDE coaching certification or Connecticut Teaching Certificate.
  • First Aid Certification.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Concussion Management Training.
  • Experience as a coach at high school or college level preferred; combination of head coach, assistant coach, player and/or education may be substituted.
  • Three years’ high school coaching experience preferred.
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of rules, regulations, strategies and techniques of the sport.
  • Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.

* This position is in accordance with the Agreement between the Bridgeport Education Association (BEA) and the Bridgeport Board of Education. The annual stipend will follow the 2026-2027 Coaches' Salaries.
