Job summary

Standex Aerospace & Defense (A&D) is seeking a Check & Straight operator in the Los Angeles area. You will correct and verify parts to meet contour, flatness, waviness, and angularity specs, using a punch or check fixture under supervision.

No prior experience is required as on-the-job training is provided; candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand 8 hours, and work in a fast-paced environment with overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• Six months experience in warehouse production or manufacturing environment is valued.

Responsibilities

• Set up parts on pedestals and fixtures.
• Use prescribed solvents and cleaning agents to remove dirt.
• Use hammers, pneumatic/hydraulic tools, gauges, fixtures as required.
• Scribe, cut, shear, grind and deburr per instructions.
• Perform check & straight operations to support production schedule.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area and equipment.
• Follow safety regulations and guidelines.
• Move parts with pallets and hand carts; assist with lifting as needed.
• Participate in on-the-job training as directed by supervisor/manager.

Job description

StandexAerospace & Defense (A&D)manufactures large customized near-net-shaped metal-formed components such as fuel domes, lip skins, and other aerospace components. Our unique spin forming process is the most efficient forming process for these parts, while we also have a complementary deep draw forming process for parts with varying shapes and contours. These parts are difficult to manufacture due to their size and tight specifications. With facilities in the US and UK, our segment is positioned to serve customers in the space, aviation, and defense markets in the North American and European regions. Our deep knowledge of the forming process, combined with our multiple decades of experience, has positioned us as a critical manufacturing partner.

A Check & Straighten operator corrects and verifies parts to comply to prescribed requirements of contour, flatness, waviness, angularity, etc., as applicable.

The process uses a tool, such as a punch or check fixture, to mechanically manipulate the profile of a part so it closely matches the tool. This operation is performed by a skilled operator using hand tools and measuring instruments, such as feeler gauges or go/no-go gauges.

What You'll Do

• Set up parts on pedestals, punch and or check fixtures
• Use prescribed solvents, cleaning agents to remove dirt, grit and foreign objects
• Use hammers, tools-pneumatic and/or hydraulic, gauges, fixtures as required
• Scribe part, cut and or shear, grind and deburr as per associated instructions
• Performs typical check & straight operations to support the production schedule
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
• Follows prescribed safety regulations and guidelines
• Makes use of pallets, hand carts and manually lifts, carries parts as needed
• Must participate in O.J.T (on the job training) as determined by supervisor/manager
