Job summary

Northside Hospital is seeking a Charge Nurse / Preceptor Nurse to coordinate daily activities, manage patient care, and educate new staff on a busy Atlanta unit. The role involves a mix of direct patient care (about 80%) and leadership/teaching responsibilities (about 20%), with shifts ranging from eight to twelve hours.

Candidates must be RN-licensed in Georgia, BLS-certified, and have at least two years of RN experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Licensed RN in Georgia in good standing without limitations.
• Certified in American Heart Association BLS.
• Two years of experience as a Registered Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates daily activities and distribution of work in the assigned unit during the shift.
• Balances direct patient care (approximately 80%) with leadership/education duties (approximately 20%).
• Supports a unit with pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; adjusts priorities based on patient acuity and volume.
• Acts as Charge and Preceptor, providing clinical guidance and education to new staff during 8–12 hour shifts.

As a Charge Nurse, coordinates daily activities and distribution of work in area during scheduled shift; as a Preceptor Nurse, acts as a professional educator and resource for new employees, demonstrating clinical expertise and competence. The approximate amount of overall participation in direct patient care activities is 80% and Charge/Preceptor duties is 20%. The range of roles between Charge and Preceptor may vary dependent upon patient acuity and volume issues. Works with a unit specific patient population. Care and/or services will be provided to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. This position is required to set priorities based on the situation at hand, and is a combination of direct patient care, management (charge), and education (preceptor) roles with responsibility for a unit during an eight (8) to twelve (12) hour shift.

REQUIRED:

• Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• Licensed as a RN in the State of Georgia in good standing without limitations.
• Must hold Certified in American Heart Association's Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
• Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).

PREFERRED:

• BSN degree
• Two (2) years recent experience in current clinical specialty (i.e., critical care, surgical services, diabetes education, radiology, etc.)
• Additional Life Support credential (ACLS, PALS, NRP, etc.) or other clinical specialty certifications in specific units.
• Visual color acuity depending on the role in specific units.
