Saint Francis Hospital-Memphis is seeking an experienced Charge Nurse to manage daily operations of a department, ensuring quality, legal and medical staff goals are met. The role requires coordinating patient care, mentoring staff, and reporting to the Nurse Manager.

The position emphasizes leadership, efficient nursing care delivery, and collaboration with the Nurse Manager and supervisors to meet unit needs.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• RN with current state licensure.
• BLS certification required on hire for all nursing positions.
• ACLS required within 3 months of hire for various departments (see listing).
• CPI required within 3 months of hire for specified RNs.
• PALS required within 3 months of hire for Emergency Dept. and Float Pool RNs.
• NRP required within 3 months of hire for L&D, Mother/Baby and NICU RNs.

Responsibilities

• Assists with recruiting and training of new hires.
• Prepares assigned reports for nurse managers.
• Assists in operational aspects of a designated unit while mentoring staff.
• Coordinates and directs daily patient care operations in the absence of the Nurse Manager; assigns patient care.
• Maintains clear communications with the Nurse Manager and House Supervisors.
• Performs related duties as required.

Job Summary

The Charge Nurse is a professional nurse who manages the daily operations of a department (s) to provide services for patients while meeting quality, legal, organizational and medical staff goals. Responsible for promoting the efficient operations to provide effective nursing care of a designated department (s). Manages the department independently under the guidance of a Nurse Manager/Director.

Responsibilities

• Assists with recruiting and training of new hires.
• Prepares assigned reports for nurse managers.
• Assists in the performance of the operational aspects of a designated unit(s) while providing mentoring and leadership support to the unit(s) staff.
• Coordinates and directs the daily patient care operations of the unit in the absence of the Nurse Manager. Assesses staff competencies and makes patient care assignments.
• Maintains clear communications with the Nurse Manager and House Supervisor(s) regarding unit needs and/or incidents.
• Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Required:
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing,
  • Experience: One year of RN experience required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • RN with current applicable state licensure / permit
    • BLS - Certification required upon hire for all nursing positions.
    • ACLS - Required within 3 months of hire for the following departments:
      • Emergency Dept & Medical Response Team RNs
      • ICU RN & Stepdown RNs
      • Med/Surg/Tele RNs
      • All Float Pool RNs,
      • Same Day Surgery RNs, Operating Room RNs & PACU RNs
      • GI Lab RNs & Interventional Radiology RNs
      • Special Procedures RNs
      • L&D RNs
      • Cardiac Care RNs, Cardiac Rehab RNs & Cardiac Cath Lab RNs
    • CPI - Required within 3 months of hire for the following:
      • Emergency Dept. RNs
      • All Bartlett Float Pool RNs, Memphis Float Pool RNs that will float to Behavioral Health and/or Emergency Dept.
      • All Behavioral Health RNs
    • PALS – Required within 3 months of hire for the following: Emergency Dept., Float Pool RNs who float to the Emergency Dept.
    • NRP – Required within 3 months of hire for L&D RNs, Mother/Baby RNs and NICU RNs.
• Preferred:
  • Education: Academic degree in nursing (Bachelors or Master's degree)
