The Role:

The Night Shift Charge Nurse (RN) on Acute Oncology serves as a clinical leader, mentor, and operational resource for 3 South , a specialized inpatient oncology unit caring for patients with complex cancer-related needs. This is not a leadership role that pulls you away from patient care. It is a role that allows you to lead from the front , remain clinically engaged, and help shape the experience of patients, families, and nursing colleagues during some of the most significant moments in a patient’s healthcare journey.

In an average shift, you will help support bedside nurses, coordinate patient flow, and partner with interdisciplinary teams to keep care moving safely and effectively.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading daily operations for a high-acuity inpatient oncology unit

• Coordinating admissions, discharges, transfers, staffing priorities, and patient flow

• Supporting nurses with clinical decision-making, prioritization, and escalation of care

• Collaborating with physicians, APPs, pharmacy, case management, and other care partners

• Serving as a mentor, coach, and resource for nursing staff

• Promoting patient safety, continuity of care, and compassionate oncology practice

• Helping foster a team culture built on communication, trust, accountability, and support

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing BSN/MSN program that will be completed within 5 years of hire.

Experience: RN Clinician 2 or higher who has been employed on the unit for 6 months or has had previous Charge Nurse experience from another unit/organization.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $46.08 - $61.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
