About this position

Charge Nurse, Operating Room SUMMARY: The Charge Nurse, Operating Room (OR) is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating the nursing care provided at the facility. This role will be responsible for managing all services and nursing responsibilities during each shift by providing assistance and care for patients, supervising nursing staff, maintaining a safe working environment, and ensuring that all operational tasks are completed on time.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Maintain operational flow of surgical cases


• Assess and address physical and emotional needs of patients


• Collaborate with Anesthesia regarding OR operational needs and work flow


• Update patient medical records with services provided, health condition and response to treatments


• Recognize changes in patients' condition and respond appropriately


• Inform physicians of any changes in patients' progress, condition or medicinal needs


• Detect any issues that could result in injuries or other difficulties for patients or staff members


• Address patient complaints in a timely fashion to ensure patient satisfaction


• Ensure proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies


• Supervise surgical staff and delegate the shift's tasks and coordinate with physicians


• Coordinate daily administrative duties, including schedules, surgical staff assignments, and patient care


• Schedule staff and patients to ensure full coverage to provide safe and effective patient care


• Ensure proper care supplies are on hand


• Handle employee conflicts or concerns


• Mentor and train new staff and provide support and guidance to all staff members


• Coordinate with doctors and administrators to communicate any protocol changes to staff


• Coordinate services with other patient care units and maintain communication


• High level of familiarity with safety practices and procedures

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Associate's Degree in Nursing


• Registered Nurse in the State of Texas


• Three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience


• One (1) year of nursing leadership experience


• Basic Life Support certified


• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire


• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire
