Job summary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Is responsible for providing direct and indirect total nursing care of residents during the assigned shift of work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assigns, directs, and supervises resident care.
  • Addresses resident needs and concerns as it occurs and enters a nurse’s note in their chart.
  • Administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians.
  • Reports changes occurring with residents or personnel to the Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, and/or Resident Care Coordinator.
  • Keeps physician and families informed about residents’ status as needed.
  • Promote teamwork between staff members, shifts, and other departments.
  • Completes required documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • May work all shifts or Treatment Nurse as need arises.
  • When an LPN and RN are concurrently working the same shift, the RN will assume the role of Charge Nurse and the LPN will report to the RN.
  • Attends meetings and educational sessions, as directed.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Responsible for the direction and supervision of CNAs/splits performing resident care and ensuring tasks are completed.
  • Document nurses’ notes for acute illness, doctor visits, when going out on pass and return.
  • Notify MDPOA in a timely manner with updates/changes/new orders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position oversees CNAs.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current Colorado RN or LPN license in good standing
  • CPR Certificate
Preferred Qualifications:
  • One year of staff or change nurse experience in Long-Term Care is desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively with teams and leadership while demonstrating a high level of integrity, sound judgment, and attention to detail. This role requires professionalism in all interactions with employees, patients, and the public, along with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all SECHD, state, and federal policies and regulations. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a professional and compassionate demeanor. Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new software systems are required. Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations, including Laboratory and CLIA requirements, is preferred. Dependability, initiative, and the ability to see tasks through to completion are critical, as is a commitment to safety, quality, and working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
