Job summary

Seattle Children's is launching a new Cardiac Specialty Unit with up to 6 intermediate care patients and 7 more for cardiac surgical/pre-transplant cases, opening July 2025. The Charge RN ensures safe, timely care and coordinates unit operations across shifts while aligning with CPI and other initiatives.

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred) and pediatric cardiac nursing experience, plus WA RN licensure and BLS; PEARS/PALS may substitute for BLS.

Qualifications

• Pediatric cardiac nursing experience is required.
• Current Washington State RN license or license for the state of practice.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers required; PEARS or PALS acceptable in lieu of BLS.
• PALS required within 3 months for specified cardiac units.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize and deliver safe, timely patient and family care for the unit.
• Coordinate patient care for the entire unit during each shift.
• Apply nursing process to oversee patient care across age groups.
• Contribute to CPI and other Seattle Children’s strategic initiatives.

Come join our newly envisioned Cardiac Specialty Unit, slated to open July 2025! The Cardiac Specialty Unit is intended to provide a bidirectional capability (step down and step up) for patients whose care needs are not optimally supported by either the CICU or acute care ward. The unit will be comprised of up to 6 Intermediate Care level patients initially, and the remaining 7 beds will hold cardiac surgical or pre transplant acute care status patients.

As an integral member of the health care team, the Charge RN functions within the scope of practice as defined by the State and the ANA Scope and Standards for Pediatric Nursing Practice. Responsible for the planning, organization and delivery of safe and timely patient and family care for all patients on the unit during each shift or for providing safe direct patient care. Applies the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate interactions with staff, patients and families of all ages. Applies the nursing process to the oversight and coordination of patient care for entire unit patient population during assigned shift. Assists in meeting Seattle Children's strategic plans by incorporating the initiatives to support the strategic plans into the daily work, i.e. Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI), ART, etc.

Required Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
• Previous pediatric cardiac experience required.
• Preference will be given to those with current experience in the area hiring e.g.: Peri Operative Services, PICU etc. and in pediatrics.

Required Credentials

• Current Washington State RN License, or other current state license that the RN is required to work in.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers is required for all positions.
• Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Providers.
• ACLS will not be accepted as a substitute to the requirements listed above.
• Employees are responsible for any costs (including time away from work) associated with obtaining PALS or PEARS certification if it is not a requirement of the position.
• Charge Nurses working in the following areas are required to successfully obtain PALS within 3 months of employment, and subsequently maintain at all times: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Cath Lab & Special Procedures. Clinical Research Center. Critical Care Float. Emergency Department. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Pediatric Transport Control. Radiology (including Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy Lab). Recovery Room (PACU). Surgery (including Bellevue Surgery Center).

Preferred

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
• More than one year Pediatric health care nursing experience.

Compensation Range

$47.60 - $89.80 per hour

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
