Houston Methodist is seeking a CDM Coordinator to maintain the Charge Description Master, train staff on charging practices, and ensure compliance with federal and CMS regulations. The role involves updating CDM entries, coordinating changes with departments, and collaborating with IT and APC coordinators to resolve billing issues within Epic.

At Houston Methodist, the Charge Description Master (CDM) Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the support of revenue cycle initiatives associated with patient charging. It is to maintain the Charge Description Master (CDM), conduct department training and education for all charges for services. Responsible for new and updated requests to Departments and rooms and beds for all Houston Methodist. Communicating appropriate rules and practices of local and Federal Agencies and how they affect the charging and CDM processes. Responsible for keeping up to date with the correlation between the CDM and APC charges and its affect to the Revenue Cycle and its policy and procedures.

4 years APC experience in the CDM/auditing arena required
3 years experience managing financial data in a large multidisciplinary healthcare system
4 years experience in hospital coding, charging and extensive knowledge of Federal regulations
2 years clinical experience preferred
Training experience is preferred
Software application certifications related to data mining, database management, or interface support preferred
4 years of healthcare accounts receivable management experience preferred
Epic Healthcare system experience preferred

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Maintains master online reference list of organizational stakeholders involved in charge entry to view internal controls on charge reconciliation, document any significant revenue impact issues and to assist in the efficient resolution of those issues.
Responsible for working with APC Coordinators to resolve CDM billing issues relating to those changes to the respective charging departments.
SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works in conjunction with IT Ancillary system staff to maintain a consistent and accurate Charge Description Master within each Ancillary charging system.
Responsible for attending committee meetings to ensure accurate transference of information to key department members.
QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Works with the Billing department to address their claims and billing concerns. This involves knowledge of non-Medicare carriers and overall knowledge of correct charging practices as well as adhering to the appropriate CMS coding guidelines rules and regulations.
Responsible for creating or making changes to departments, cost centers, or bed requests within Epic. Works closely with IT in the building and testing of these requests within set time lines.
FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for working with Nursing & Ancillary departments, coordinate all aspects of the charge capture and charge reconciliation in tracking charges from inception to billing.
Responsible for training and communicating to all departments’ of rules and practices for both local and Federal agencies regarding procedures/charges.
Responsible for staying up to date on the extensive processes of the Revenue Cycle.
GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsible for participating in functions of Departments and its support for corporate maintenance of the CDM.
Responsible for maintaining up to date knowledge of CPTs, and various resource websites used to support CDM and billing compliance issues.
