Luminus in Sunnyvale, CA seeks a self-motivated Characterization Engineer to measure and characterize Laser Diode and LED products, set up test benches, and write technical reports.

You will work with senior engineers to develop new characterization methods, analyze data, and contribute to product performance insights. Requires MS/PhD and 2–5 years in optics/photonics, with Python/JMP proficiency.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Photonics or related fields.
• 2–5 years of relevant industry or research experience in optics, photonics, optical engineering, or a related field.
• Solid understanding of semiconductor device physics and optoelectronics.
• Hands-on lab skills with previous experience characterizing Laser Diodes.
• Excellent data analysis skills with strong attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Python and JMP for automation and data analysis.
• Independently driven, able to manage multiple simultaneous tasks effectively.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Responsabilités

• Plan and coordinate product testing to describe performance characteristics of Laser Diodes, LED products, and their components.
• Test packaged chips for optical power, wavelength, beam shape, voltage, and thermal characteristics.
• Set up optical and electrical test benches and develop new characterization tools and methodologies.
• Write clear technical reports and communicate test results, conclusions, and recommendations to product development teams.
