Job summary

Human Computer Lab in San Francisco is seeking a character artist to shape LeLamp's look, movement, and personality. You’ll drive concept art, mood boards, and expressive design that translates into motor curves, lighting, and behavior for the robot.

Collaborating with hardware, mechanical, and software teams, you’ll iterate quickly from sketches to prototypes, build a character bible, and ensure brand consistency across all touchpoints as the company builds a new generation of interactive

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in design, animation, industrial design, or related field, or equivalent hands-on portfolio.
• Portfolio demonstrates character design or expressive design in 2D or 3D.
• Ability to explain design decisions and iterate quickly with feedback from engineers.
• Interest in physical products and translating visuals into real hardware constraints.

Responsibilities

• Create concept art, mood boards, and character studies defining LeLamp's personality and visual identity.
• Collaborate with hardware on form factor, silhouette, materials, and color.
• Design expressive motion, including gestures, emotional states, and lighting cues.
• Prototype and iterate from sketches to physical mockups.
• Translate character intent into concrete behavior parameters for motion and timing.
• Build and maintain style guides and a character bible for consistency.
• Review prototypes and provide actionable feedback to hardware and software teams.
• Support brand and marketing assets to keep the character consistent across touchpoints.
