Job summary

The Missouri Department of Corrections is seeking a Chaplain who will lead and coordinate religious and spiritual programs within a correctional setting, ensuring inclusive support for inmates of all faith traditions.

The role emphasizes administrative duties, counseling, and program development, with opportunities to recruit and supervise volunteers and contribute to a safe, rehabilitative environment.

Qualifications

• Four or more years of experience in managing religious programming.
• Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may be substituted on a year for year basis for a maximum of two years of the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year.
• Prior chaplaincy/counseling experience, prison/jail ministry experience, inter-faith work, and Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.) training are desirable.
• Good administrative, planning and counseling skills are required.

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications/Skills

Prior chaplaincy/counseling experience, prison/jail ministry experience, inter-faith work, and Clinical Pastoral Education (C.P.E.) training are desirable.

Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

• A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
• A $0.75 per hour medium security or $1.50 maximum security differential if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
• A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing differential if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years! If you are transferring from another State of Missouri agency and are receiving state retention pay, please be advised that the Missouri Department of Corrections administers retention based upon your retention anniversary date. As a result, your retention pay upon transfer may differ from what you were receiving at your previous agency until you reach your applicable retention anniversary date.
