Job summary

Hartford HealthCare’s Backus Hospital is seeking a Chaplain to assess, plan, coordinate and provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff. The Chaplain acts as a liaison to religious communities and supports all care teams with compassionate ministry and education.

Required are an accredited Master’s degree, 4 CPE units, and at least one year of chaplaincy experience, with preference for hospital pastoral care. This role may involve on-site responsibilities and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Master degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
• Master of Divinity or Master of Theology preferred.
• Four units of Clinical Pastoral Education required.
• Ordained or commissioned for ministry; board certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, coordinate and provide care and counseling per spiritual needs.
• Serve as hospital representative to religious community and related entities.
• Provide 24-hour emergency spiritual care, directly or via chaplains.
• Educate patients, families, staff and volunteers on spiritual wellbeing.

Job Summary

The Chaplain assesses, plans, coordinates and provides care and counseling according to the spiritual and religious needs of patients, family members and friends, Hospital staff and volunteers. The Chaplain serves as the Hospital’s representative to the religious community and to other appropriate entities and demonstrates behavior consistent with the mission of Hartford HealthCare. The Chaplain shall be available for consultations, support and education of patients/families/staff/volunteers. The Chaplain shall provide 24-hour emergency care, personally or by utilizing staff and volunteer clergy.

Qualifications

Education: Master Degree from accredited institution in a related field. Master of Divinity or a Master of Theology from a recognized seminary, divinity school or college of theology preferred.

Experience: One year experience as a chaplain in a recognized setting. A minimum of three years of pastoral care experience as a Chaplain is preferred, of which two years should be in a hospital setting.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education required. Ordained or commissioned for ministry by a recognized faith group or denomination, and is in good standing with his/her religious/spiritual community preferred. Board Certification by Association of Professional Chaplains or recognized organization preferred.

• Competency in electronic medical record documentation with intermediate skills in Microsoft Office
• Interpersonal skills needed to work with distressed and anxious patients, families, and employees
• Analytical ability to assess spiritual needs and well-being of person’s in care and identify intervention strategies to support
