Job summary

Advocate Health is looking for a chaplain to deliver spiritual care across patient care areas, including prayer, sacraments and emotional support. The role supports patients, families and team members as part of the spiritual care department, with weekend and holiday coverage as needed.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in Religious Studies, Theology, or Divinity and has at least one year of caregiving experience.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Religious Studies, Theology, or Divinity is required.
  • One year of professional caregiving experience or similar caregiving capacity.
  • One unit of clinical pastoral education and strong spiritual care background.

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care for patients, families and staff, including prayer and emotional support.
  • Engage in departmental coverage, weekends/holidays, and chapel/memorial services as scheduled.
  • Maintain reporting and administrative tasks to support department operations.

Pay Range:

$19.00 - $19.00

Major Responsibilities:
Participates in supervised educational activities congruent with the needs of the spiritual care department, the facility and the PSA under the direction of the CPE Supervisor and in conformance with the standards and outcomes of the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE).

Provides spiritual care for patients, families and team members in assigned areas, including but not limited to prayer, sacraments, and religious, spiritual or emotional support.

Participates in the life and work of the department to ensure effective delivery of spiritual care: participates in overall site coverage, works shifts as needed to provide coverage including weekends and holidays, and conducts chapel and memorial services as scheduled.

Completes tasks and reports as assigned and according to system policies and procedures to support operations of the department and to develop administrative competence.

Develops knowledge, skills and abilities in pastoral theology, medical ethics, group process, and human development congruent with health care chaplaincy and ACPE CPE outcomes.

Interprets and supports Advocate Aurora Health’s mission and values and promotes patient safety by reporting issues through established channels and participating in safety initiatives.

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Education/Experience Required:
Education Required: Master's Degree in Religious Studies, or Master's Degree in Theology, or Master's Degree in Divinity. Experience Required: Typically requires 1 year of experience in professional caregiving or in providing caregiving within a similar capacity.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
One unit of clinical pastoral education. Strong spiritual care background with a basic working knowledge of theology, spirituality, interpretation of sacred writings, human behavior and spiritual care skills. Faith group standing as appropriate. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar products. Ability to adapt to change, work with diverse personalities, cultures and faith traditions. Strong communication (oral and written) and human relation skills. Must be able to participate in overnight and weekend on-call rotation per the department schedule, including moving between sites of care as needed.

Must be able to participate in overnight on-call rotation per the department schedule. Must be able to stand/walk frequently throughout the workday. Must be able to drive to Aurora facilities within the Milwaukee metro area. Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job. Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
