Work Schedule - Schedule will vary. Must be available to be on-call. The selected candidate needs to be available to work days, evenings, nights, or overnight if required.
Primary Responsibilities
- Provides for spiritual, religious and faith-based care needs of patients, families, and Team Members at UM UCH facilities. Supports the UM UCH Patient Family Centered Care model through ministry.
- Responds to religious and spiritual needs of patient, family and Team Members.
- Consults with clinical Team Members on patient/family needs.
- Makes recommendations and referrals to religious and faith-based resources and services.
- Educates Team Members on how to access spiritual and religious care for themselves, patients and family members.
- Attends monthly UM UCH Spiritual Care Committee meetings.
- Assures adherence to all relevant Joint Commission and Chaplaincy standards.
- Supports the UM UCH Patient Family Centered Care model through ministry.
- Makes rounds during assigned shift.
- When on-call, is onsite of requesting facility within 45 minutes.
- Documents spiritual/religious care in EMR.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Experience
Education & Experience - Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a ministry related theological/religious field from an accredited college, university or seminary. General knowledge of psychology and advanced knowledge of theology, sacred scripture and various faith, religious and/or spiritual traditions is required.
- Minimum two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited organization (ACPE, CPSP, ICPT, ACCC, SCA) are required. One (1) unit is equivalent to 300 clinical hours and 100 didactic hours.
- Certification as a Board-Certified Chaplain is required within 24 months of date-of-hire.
- Must have ecclesiastical/denominational endorsement as a chaplain.
Education & Experience - Preferred
- Master’s Degree in a ministry related theological/religious field from an accredited college, university or seminary.
- Ordination or the equivalent through a recognized faith group.
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing spiritual and religious care in a medical setting.
- 4 Units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited organization (ACPE, CPSP, ICPT, ACCC, SCA)

- Ability to lead and coordinate prayer and religious ritual needs and interact effectively with people of all age ranges.
- Ability to maintain and handle confidentiality issues with the utmost integrity and discretion.
