Job summary

Heart Hospital of Austin seeks a Chaplain PRN to provide spiritual guidance and emotional support across hospital departments. You will advocate for patient- and family-centered care, connect with community clergy, and document care interactions within the patient record.

Responsibilities include comforting patients and families, supporting staff, and participating in crisis intervention when needed. Prior experience in a hospital setting is preferred and ACPE-certified CPE is valued.

Qualifications

• Experience serving in hospital chaplaincy or equivalent
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution
• 1 unit of ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education
• Hospital-based CPE preferred
• Master of Divinity preferred
• 1 year of experience required

Responsibilities

• Provide visitation and spiritual support to patients, families, staff and visitors
• Reduce anxiety, mediate conflicts and offer prayer when appropriate
• Coordinate patient visits with community churches and clergy
• Document services and significant interactions in the patient record
• Serve as a liaison to the hospital Ethics Committee
• Assist with crisis intervention as needed
• Guide advanced directives and ethical issues for patients and families
• Help formulate programs and policies to meet spiritual needs of the organization

Job Summary And Qualifications

As a Chaplain, you will work with all hospital departments and personnel to provide spiritual guidance and emotional support during illness, injury and/or emergency to patients, family members, visitors, hospital staff, and physicians. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, you will advocate for a patient- and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions and will demonstrate caring and empathy in all interactions.

• You will provide visitations and spiritual support to patients, family members, and employees
• You will aim to reduce anxiety and fear, mediate conflict, and offer prayer when appropriate
• You will serve as a liaison to community churches and clergy members on behalf of the hospital, including the coordination of patient visits
• You will document services and significant interactions in the patient record
• You will function as a contact to the Ethics Committee
• You will provide assistance with crisis intervention measures where appropriate
• You will provide guidance with advanced directives and ethical issues of patients and families
• You will formulate programs and policies to meet the spiritual needs of the organization

What qualifications you will need:

• Previous experience working in a hospital setting as a Chaplain – preferred
• Bachelor’s degree in area of expertise from an accredited institution
• 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE)
• Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) completed in a hospital setting – preferred
• Masters of Divinity – preferred
• 1 years experience Required Years of Experience
