Job summary

The State of South Carolina, Department of Corrections, seeks a Chaplain to organize, develop, implement and monitor pastoral care services for inmates. Responsibilities include weekly worship sacraments, crisis counseling, individual and group pastoral counseling, visitation, religious education, and other related activities.

The role requires working with volunteers from various denominations, coordinating with institutional operations and staff, and supervising Clinical Chaplain I.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity required from an accredited theological school.
• Ordination as priest, minister, or rabbi with ecclesiastical endorsement; pastoral experience.
• Completion of two CPE units under supervision; four CPE units within 24 months of hire.

Job Responsibilities

• Organizes, develops, implements, and monitors pastoral care service programs for the inmates.
• Services provided will include weekly worship sacraments, crisis counseling, individual and group pastoral counseling, visitation, religious education, and other related religious activities.

• Works closely with institutional operations, programs, and administrative staff.
• Supervises Clinical Chaplain I.

Must successfully complete four (4) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

The equivalent of a master of divinity degree from an accredited theological school, additional clinical pastoral education and/or work experience in a clinical pastoral setting.

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• Must have the equivalent of a Master of Divinity degree from an accredited theological seminary.
• Ordination as a priest, minister, or rabbi, with current ecclesiastical endorsement; one (1) year of pastoral experience; and must have completed two (2) CPE units under supervision of an ACPE certified educator.
• Will be required to have 4 units of CPE within 24 months of hire.
