Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, Missouri seeks a full‑time chaplain to provide spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in alignment with Mercy Service Standards.

The role involves collaborating with the interdisciplinary clinical team, supporting patients in crisis or emotional distress, and pursuing board certification along with APC/NACC requirements. Qualified candidates will have theology or related master’s work and CPE units.

Supported Functional Area: Support Services, Other Professional Non‑Clinical

Qualifications

Education: Masters‑level work in Theology, Ministry, Counseling, Divinity or equivalence in related field. Four units of CPE (see worksheet Guide to Determining Applicable CPE & Certification Programs for New Chaplain Hires).

Experience: One year of health care chaplaincy experience (may include CPE experience).

Certifications: Eligible for certification or in process to become Board Certified Chaplain (see worksheet Guide to Determining Applicable CPE & Certification Programs for New Chaplain Hires).

Preferred

Education: Four units of CPE recognized by Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC).

Experience: Depending on local needs, any of the following could be preferred for a Chaplain II: Experience with specialty area, three (3) years of chaplain experience, presenting to physicians/other clinicians.

Certifications: Board Certified Chaplain (BCC) by APC or NACC.
