Job summary

Hospice Savannah is seeking a Chaplain to provide pastoral support to patients and families during terminal illness, while upholding confidentiality and patient rights. The Chaplain will respect cultural diversity and support the agency’s service standards.

The role requires ordination or equivalent, appropriate CPE training, and is based in Savannah, GA with on‑call duties and documentation responsibilities in daily workflow.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Divinity or equivalent with at least two years’ hospice or related care experience.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education with at least 2 CPE units completed (4 preferred).
  • Ordained, licensed or commissioned minister of an organized religion.
  • Member of clergy with endorsement or good standing from denomination.
  • Knowledge of intervention resources and appropriate utilization.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to interact with diverse patient populations and families.

Job Summary

As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the Chaplain uses experience, knowledge, judgment and skills to provide a program of pastoral support to patients and families during the terminal illness. Maintains patient confidentiality and promotes patient rights as supported by agency, state and federal directives. Identifies cultural diversity and lifestyle choices and non‑judgmentally accommodates for such differences. The Chaplain is committed to the philosophy, goals and objectives of the hospice concept while consistently demonstrating the Hospice Savannah values and compliance with organization’s service excellence standards.

Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Divinity or an equivalent graduate degree of theological studies with a minimum of two years’ experience in hospice or related field providing care and counseling.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education, including completion of at least 2 CPE units required, 4 preferred.
  • Ordained, licensed or commissioned minister of an organized religion.
  • Member of clergy with an endorsement or letter of good standing from the denomination.
  • Knowledge of intervention resources and appropriate utilization.
  • Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and the ability to successfully interact with a diverse patient population, families, physicians, Hospice Savannah staff and the community at-large along with excellent customer service and documentation skills.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Outlook) and database knowledge.
Physical Demands

Position requires moderate visual concentration for patient charting/documentation and computer work. Position carries a risk of exposure to infectious diseases and requires skill in standard safety precautions. The Chaplain may be required to assist with ambulating or lifting a patient with or without the assistance of devices in excess of 75 lbs. utilizing proper body mechanics.

Work Environment

A full‑time position works a 30‑40 hour work week, rotating days, evenings or weekends, with occasional requests to work additional days/hours/holidays as needed. The Chaplain is required to participate in the rotating on‑call schedule and may be required to provide care in high‑risk crime areas and unsafe situations as determined by local authorities. This position encounters stressful situations with patients and their families regarding end‑of‑life care and the Chaplain must be able to accurately, timely and concisely document the patient/family encounter using a computer. At times the Chaplain may be required to serve patients outside their assigned department/region. The position requires the use of personal vehicle for patient visits and may involve extensive driving.
