Job summary

Henry Ford Health seeks a Chaplain to provide religious and spiritual care for patients and families at St. John Detroit Hospital, with ability to serve East Region sites. The role is full-time, 40 hours weekly, day shift, with weekend and holiday rotation.

The candidate will deliver pastoral care, perform sacraments, and collaborate with the care team to support holistic patient well-being. Board certification or ecclesiastical endorsement is required, with 3–5 years of hospital chaplaincy

Qualifications

• Board certification from APC, NACC, CASC, or NAJC at time of hire or transfer is required.
• If not board certified, ecclesiastical endorsement is required.
• 3–5 years of healthcare experience as a chaplain is preferred.
• 4 ACPE units are required.

• Provides religious and spiritual care and counsel for emotional and spiritual distress to patients, families, associates, and others with attention to diverse spiritual orientations and cultures.
• Provides pastoral care to local ministry and community through sacraments, rituals, blessings and liturgies.
• Participates and collaborates with others in the delivery of holistic patient care.
• Builds and maintains relationships with patients, families and associates through visitation and communication to create spiritual and religious connections.
• Mentors CPE students and fellows.

Responsibilities

Schedule: Full time, 40hrs, 8hr Day Shift, M-F 8am-4:30pm with weekend and holiday rotation

This position will be housed at St. John Detroit Hospital, with the ability to be used at any of the East Region sites.

• Provides religious and spiritual care and counsel for emotional and spiritual distress to patients, their families, associates and others with attention to diverse spiritual orientations and cultures.
• Provides pastoral care to the local ministry and community through performing sacraments, rituals, blessings and liturgies.
• Participates and collaborates with others in the delivery of holistic patient care.
• Builds and maintains relationships with patients, families and associates through regular visitations and communication in order to create spiritual and religious connections.
• Mentors Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) students and fellows.

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Board Certification from the APC, NACC, CASC, or the NAJC at time of hire or job transfer is required.
• For those not board certified at time of hire or job transfer, ecclesiastical endorsement is required.

Education

• Master's Degree in Divinity, Theology, or a related field from an accredited school is required.
• 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education accredited by the ACPE is required.
• 3-5 years of healthcare experience as a chaplain is preferred.
