Overview

The Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC) is expanding the Religious Services Department and hiring Chaplains to provide spiritual services to incarcerated individuals in Connecticut.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer rites and sacraments; prepare and deliver sermons.
• Counsel individuals, families, and visiting clergy.
• Collaborate with facility staff on religious concerns.
• Conduct worship services during holidays and other religious observances.
• Maintain accurate records and reports; participate in team meetings.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited three‑year postgraduate theological seminary or a Master of Divinity degree.
• Completion of all formal religious training required by a recognized religious denomination.
• One year pastoral experience or equivalent within a recognized religious denomination.
• Ordination or commissioning by a religious body and ongoing endorsement by an acceptable denominational authority.
• Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s license (may be required). May be required to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) experience.
• Experience working with diverse and at‑risk populations and multiple faith traditions.
• Ability to keep records, manage schedules, and work independently in a team environment.

Training

All selected candidates will attend a 14‑week Training Academy in Cheshire, CT.
