Job summary

Blessing Health System is seeking a Chaplain to provide ministry, spiritual guidance and support to patients, families, caregivers and staff in an interfaith environment. The Chaplain collaborates with the Spiritual Care Executive Committee, Chaplain, and Volunteer Services Director to guide the Volunteer Spiritual Care Program and serve patients with diverse faith backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide interfaith spiritual care to patients, families, and staff.
  • Offer counseling and support during surgical procedures, end-of-life situations, or traumatic events.
  • Collaborate with the Spiritual Care Executive Committee, Chaplain, and Director of Volunteer Services.
  • Uphold the Mission of Blessing Hospital and maintain confidentiality and ethics.

Job Summary

The Chaplain provides ministry, spiritual guidance and support to patients, family members, caregivers and staff. Works in collaboration with the elected Spiritual Care Executive Committee members, Chaplain, Spiritual Care Supervisor and the Director of Volunteer Services to guide and direct the Volunteer Spiritual Care Program. The Chaplain offers spiritual care to those with no specific affiliation/preference or no pastor available. Works in an interfaith environment using a non-denominational style of counseling. This position requires working with Volunteer Chaplains of many faiths serving a diverse population, and provides counsel to patients undergoing surgical procedures, facing end of life issues or involved in traumatic events. Chaplains provide service to many age populations, including neonates through geriatric in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Blessing Hospital and Blessing Volunteer Services and Spiritual Care Department. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Code of Conduct and I-CARE Standards while supporting the strategic plan of Blessing Health System. Chaplains are held to a high standard of ethical behavior, professionalism and confidentiality.

Education/Training/Experience
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor Degree
  • Four Completed Units of Clinical Pastoral Education
  • Bereavement education and experience
  • Crisis intervention education and experience
  • Ability to work closely in a trusting relationship with patients, hospital professionals, volunteer chaplains, and area clergy
  • Denominational Endorsement
Preferred
  • Three years’ experience as a healthcare chaplain, strongly preferred
  • Master of Divinity or related field
  • Two years of full-time pastoral experience in parish ministry
  • Volunteer spiritual care experience during parish ministry
  • Experience working directly with volunteers, chaplaincy or spiritual care volunteers
  • Ordination
  • Certification by one of the national certifying organizations concerned with pastoral care in institutions, such as APC, ICPT, or CPEI.
  • Experience using healthcare documentation programs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office systems
License/Certifications/Special Requirements
  • Must be certified as a chaplain by one of the national clergy certifying organizations concerned with pastoral care in institutions within two years of employment
