Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of the Chaplaincy Service, incumbents of this class provide religious and spiritual support and guidance to patients, their loved ones and staff of the facilities at the Medical Center according to national best-practice standards of practice for professional chaplains. This includes rounding, charting in medical record interventions, attending ethics or family conferences as requested; and caring for staff in crisis moments. Monthly supervision will be provided by the Department Director at staff meetings where attendance is required.

Responsibilities
  • The Staff Chaplain makes daily rounds on assigned units and on specific patient populations when directed providing ministry during scheduled hours and clearing all referrals.
  • Serves full-time or flexible hours in house daily.
  • Collaborates with physician and nursing staff in providing emotional and spiritual support.
  • Documents in the patient’s medical record any visitation within 72 hours of visit.
  • May be responsible for providing worship services on faith-specific high holy days in his/her faith tradition when assigned.
  • Works as a team player with all faith groups and members of the staff in Chaplaincy Services.
  • Participates in continuing chaplaincy related education for the Medical Center, Chaplaincy Service and surrounding community upon prior approval of department Director.
  • Uses continuing education to improve skills and bring creative enrichment to the Chaplaincy Service Department.
  • Will attend monthly Staff meetings. Will complete all annual requirements as required timely.

Qualifications / Requirements
Experience
