Change Management / Trend Engineer

Full Time Houston, TX, US

2 days ago Requisition ID: 1027

Salary Range: $75,000.00 To $175,000.00 Annually

ROLE SUMMARY

The Change Management / Trend Engineer proactively identifies, evaluates, tracks and manages changes and emerging cost and schedule trends on Data Centers construction program before they become major financial or schedule exposures. Projects involve rapidly evolving designs, changing scopes, multiple contractors, aggressive schedules and significant capital commitments. The role brings structure and discipline to change management without slowing construction execution, and gives project leadership early visibility of exposure so decisions can be made quickly.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify and track emerging cost and schedule trends arising from design development, scope changes, field conditions, contractor claims, procurement changes and productivity issues.
  • Manage the full change lifecycle: trend notification, evaluation, approval, change order execution and incorporation into budgets and forecasts.
  • Establish and maintain change and trend registers, including scope descriptions, cost estimates, schedule impacts, status, ownership, approval requirements and supporting documentation.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of changes: review contractor estimates, validate quantities and rates, identify cost exposure and coordinate with Cost Engineering and Estimating.
  • Work with Scheduling and Construction to assess schedule impacts, including critical path exposure, delay, acceleration and sequencing changes.
  • Assess proposed changes against scope definitions, approved budgets and contract baselines to distinguish legitimate scope changes from design evolution and contractor obligations.
  • Review contractor change requests, validate supporting documentation, identify duplicate or unsupported costs and coordinate commercial and technical evaluations.
  • Coordinate with Cost Engineering so approved changes, pending changes and potential trends are reflected in forecasts and EAC with clear exposure visibility and no double counting.
  • Work with Contracts and Commercial teams on change provisions, notice requirements and entitlement, without assuming contractual approval authority.
  • Provide early visibility of exposure to project leadership; make preliminary assessments and refine them as information develops.
  • Challenge unsupported requests and follow up with stakeholders to drive changes to resolution.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong change management, trend management, cost engineering or project controls background on large-scale construction, power generation, data center, industrial, infrastructure or EPC projects.
  • Proven experience identifying and tracking cost and schedule trends.
  • Strong understanding of the change management lifecycle and of scope, baseline and budget management.
  • Experience evaluating cost impacts and contractor change orders.
  • Good understanding of EPC and construction contracts, including change provisions, notice requirements, entitlement principles and approval authorities.
  • Strong Excel and data management skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Omega 365 experience (change management, cost control, commitments and reporting modules).
  • Working knowledge of Primavera P6.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Analytical and commercially aware
  • Adaptable when designs and priorities change and information is incomplete
  • Collaborative with Construction, Engineering, Contracts, Procurement, Cost Engineering, Scheduling, Estimating and contractors
  • Proactive, energetic and detail-oriented; takes hands-on ownership
  • Able to challenge unsupported requests while keeping productive working relationships

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate does more than maintain a change order log or process contractor requests. Effective change management begins well before a formal change order is submitted: this person recognizes potential exposure from evolving engineering, execution, procurement and contractor activity even when the full financial impact is not yet known, and balances commercial discipline with the realities of accelerated construction. Demonstrated change and trend experience on complex projects, sound commercial judgment and field awareness matter more than familiarity with any single software platform.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Fast-paced construction program with aggressive schedules, rapidly evolving priorities and multiple contractors working concurrently. Hands-on, site-engaged role.
