Job summary

HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL seeks a Certified Child Life Specialist to educate, prepare and support infants, children, adolescents and their families through illness and hospitalization within the Pediatric Behavioral Health/Social Work team.

A Bachelor’s degree is required and Master’s is preferred; certification through Child Life Council or eligibility to take the exam is required. The role is scheduled for 40 hours per week, with a comprehensive benefits package and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline is required.
• Master’s degree in a related discipline is preferred.
• Certified Child Life Specialist is required.
• Certification required through Child Life Council, or eligible to take the exam.

Responsibilities

• Educates, prepares and supports infants, children, adolescents and their families through difficult tests, procedures and the sometimes-drastic changes that happen within their families due to chronic or acute illness, treatment and recovery.
• Provides a comprehensive program of services for emotional and developmental support to minimize the stress of illness/hospitalization.
• Advocate for the special needs of children and their families.
