The University of Southern California (USC) seeks a dynamic Facility Coordinator for its cGMP facility within the Keck School of Medicine. You will oversee cGMP lab spaces, ensure compliant operations, and support the development of cell and gene therapies.

Responsibilities

  • Supports cGMP lab and ancillary spaces operations, qualification, maintenance (shutdowns), risk assessments, and troubleshooting for building systems and equipment.
  • Performs repairs, emergency and preventive maintenance, and oversees outside contractors.
  • Supports equipment commissioning, qualification and validation activities including testing and documentation.
  • Conducts routine laboratory procedures and tests with high quality results, e.g., media formulations and Elisa testing.
  • Supervises staff in absence of Facilities Manager, assists in planning and workload prioritization.
  • Coordinates environmental health and safety programs and coordinates security surveys.
  • Prepares space and equipment analysis and contributes to long-range planning.
  • Coordinates construction, renovation, and telecommunication projects and staff training as needed.

Job description

USC's Keck School of Medicine, Department of Medicine - cGMP is seeking a dynamic facility coordinator for its cGMP facility. The coordinator will oversee all cGMP lab and ancillary space activities, including operations, qualification, maintenance, risk assessments, and troubleshooting for building systems and equipment. They will perform repairs, maintenance, and equipment commissioning, qualification, and validation activities. The facility coordinator will play a crucial role in maintaining the cGMP facility and supporting the development of cell and gene therapies and biological products.

Job Accountabilities:
  • Supports all activities associated with cGMP lab and ancillary spaces, including but not limited to, operations, qualification, maintenance (shut-down activities), risk assessments and troubleshooting (root cause analysis and CAPA implementation) for all building systems (fire alarms, HVAC, plumbing) and equipment to achieve suitable environmental and operational conditions to comply with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency and USC directives.
  • Performs assigned repairs, emergency, and preventive maintenance to facility, monitoring systems and equipment, and oversees and inspects the work performed by outside contractors when required.
  • Performs and supports equipment commissioning, qualification and validation (including factory and site acceptance testing) activities for equipment while keeping maintenance and repair records.
  • Performs moderate to complex specific laboratory procedures, testing etc, utilizing techniques and technology related to specialized scientific field. (e.g. May prepare regular and special media formulations; produce grow or culture microbiological materials; performs Elisa plate testing with consistent high quality test results, etc.)
  • Supervises unit employees in the absence of Facilities Manager, regarding scheduling and assigning and prioritizing workload.
  • Prepares short-range plans for the use of facilities. Assists in maintaining analysis of space and equipment requirements and in usage allocation. Contributes to long- range planning.
  • Assists in developing and implementing deferred maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Monitors and analyzes facilities expenses. Assists with developing facilities cost projections, as required. Reconciles facilities expenses to University financial records and initiates correcting entries. Assists with coordination of facilities year- end closing activity. Provides management with information for budget reports, as assigned.
  • Interacts with University departments and/or outside contractors and vendors for facilities operations, maintenance, construction and renovation projects.
  • Coordinates environmental health and safety programs. Assists in conducting safety inspections and providing health and safety equipment. Maintains records for compliance with government and University regulations.
  • Coordinates security surveys. Assists in resolving security concerns.
  • Recommends appropriate changes to procedures for facilities access in regards to key issuance and record maintenance.
  • Conducts routine maintenance inspections of facilities for deficiencies, safety hazards and/or code violations, such as field inspections of lighting, temperatures, signage, housekeeping and phone systems. Conducts inspections of facility equipment, and coordinates required repairs and/or purchases.
  • Coordinates construction and renovation projects. Compiles data for cost and status reports for management.
  • Coordinates telecommunication projects for assigned facilities. May include developing and coordinating staff training programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
Successful Candidates Must Demonstrate:
  • Degree in directly related specialized scientific field. Previous specialized laboratory experience, knowledgeable in use of specialized laboratory equipment. Working knowledge of lab procedures, techniques and testing related to specialized scientific field. Strong communication and writing skills with demonstrated ability to work as an individual contributor and in a dynamic team environment.

The hourly rate range for this position is $39.95 - $45.24. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidates's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
