Job summary

CBIZ, Inc. seeks a Manager (Principal) for its CFO Advisory team to serve private equity-backed portfolio companies across the U.S.

You will be a senior finance operator embedded in client engagements, executing critical accounting and finance workstreams and delivering key outputs to engagement leadership.   • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting for private companies.
  • MBA or Master’s degree preferred; CPA or equivalent certification.
  • Experience in audit, advisory, or operational finance in PE-backed env.

Responsibilities

  • Execute accounting and finance workstreams within a structured engagement model.
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for client stakeholders.
  • Support planning, coordination, and delivery of outputs.
  • Contribute to client meetings and deliver materials as needed.
  • Provide hands-on accounting and finance support including post-acquisition integration, financial reporting, close improvements, and cash flow analysis.

The CFO Advisory practice within CBIZ Private Equity Advisory is a premier finance and accounting consultancy for middle market private equity groups and companies. Essential Functions and Primary Duties

Our CFO Advisory team provides hands-on accounting and finance support to private equity-backed portfolio companies across a variety of industries throughout the U.S.As a Manager (Principal), you will serve as a senior finance operator and leader embedded within client engagements. You will be responsible for executing critical accounting and finance workstreams, preparing key deliverables, and supporting engagement leadership in driving overall client outcomes.

This role provides the opportunity to work directly with portfolio company management teams during periods of growth, transition, and operational change.

You will:
  • Execute on accounting and finance workstreams within a structured engagement model
  • Serve as a primary day-to-day contact for client stakeholders within your assigned scope
  • Support engagement leadership in planning, coordination, and delivery of key outputs
  • Contribute to client discussions and presentations, including status updates
  • Provide hands-on accounting and finance support to private equity-backed companies, including:
    • Post-acquisition integration support
    • Financial reporting and close process improvement
    • Audit readiness and preparation
    • Working capital, cash flow, and operational finance analysis
  • Prepare high-quality analyses, schedules, and deliverables that are accurate, well-structured, and client-ready
  • Support the execution of engagement workplans by managing assigned workstreams and meeting established timelines
  • Communicate effectively with client stakeholders, including Controllers, CFOs, and private equity representatives, within the scope of assigned responsibilities
  • Participate in client meetings, including regular status discussions, providing updates and supporting materials as needed
  • Identify risks, challenges, or delays within assigned workstreams and proactively communicate to engagement leadership with appropriate context
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements for private companies
  • Master's degree in Accounting or MBA (with accounting or finance undergraduate degree), preferred
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification
  • Prior experience in audit, advisory, financial consulting, or operational finance, preferably within a private equity backed portfolio company environment
  • Strong analytical, Excel, and financial modeling skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly present financial information
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated with the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, client-driven environment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 years of experience in related field
  • 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Must have and preserve required licenses
  • Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Proficient use of applicable technologyMust be able to travel based on client and business needs #LI-DNI
