Job summary

Alliance Steel OKC is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to ensure welding activities and fabricated components meet codes, standards, and customer specs. You will perform visual inspections, verify prep and procedures, and maintain detailed QC records.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in welding inspection, strong knowledge of GMAW/SAW, and proficiency with MS Office and QA/QC systems. This role supports continuous improvement in quality and safety within a fabrication shop environment.

Qualifications

• AWS CWI certification required.
• Minimum 3 years’ welding inspection experience in fabrication/manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes (GMAW, SAW).
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols and specs.
• Excellent attention to detail, documentation and communication skills.
• Experience with AWS or industry codes.
• Proficiency in MS Office and QA/QC documentation systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual weld inspections per AWS or applicable standards.
• Verify joint preparation, fit-up and welding procedures before and during production.
• Conduct dimensional checks and ensure parts meet drawings and tolerances.
• Monitor weld quality to ensure compliance with WPS.

Job description

The Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) is responsible for ensuring all welding activities and fabricated components meet applicable codes, standards, and customer specifications. This role involves performing visual inspections and dimensional checks while maintaining detailed inspection records and supporting continuous improvement in welding quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities

Inspection & Quality Control

• Perform visual weld inspections in accordance with AWS or other applicable standards.
• Verify weld joint preparation, fit-up, and welding procedures before and during production.
• Conduct dimensional checks and ensure parts meet drawing specifications and tolerances.
• Monitor weld quality throughout production to ensure compliance with WPS.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate inspection reports and quality control records.
• Verify welder qualifications and ensure welding personnel are certified per applicable codes.
• Review and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
• Ensure adherence to all welding codes, industry standards, and company quality procedures.

Process Improvement & Support

• Work closely with welders, fitters, and supervisors to resolve welding quality issues.
• Recommend corrective actions and improvements to welding processes.
• Assist in training and mentoring welding personnel on quality standards and best practices.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Weld Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in welding inspection in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of welding processes, GMAW, SAW.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical specifications.
• Excellent attention to detail, documentation skills, and communication skills.
• Experience with AWS or other industry-specific codes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and QA/QC documentation systems.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work in a fabrication shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, and metal fumes.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and climb ladders or platforms for extended periods.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

This role is primarily performed in a fabrication shop setting, with occasional work in the field or at customer sites as required. Safety gear is required at all times, including steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and other PPE as necessary.
