Snow & Company Inc. seeks a Certified Welding Inspector to ensure quality, safety, and code compliance of welds on high-impact naval and commercial projects. You will supervise welders, maintain records, and collaborate with project teams in a fast-paced shipyard environment in Seattle.

The role requires AWS/ASME/WABO welding certifications and an active CWI. Eligible candidates must pass weld tests and pre-employment screenings; relocation assistance is provided for Seattle and adjacent areas.

Qualifications

• Must have welding inspection experience and knowledge of weld processes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Strong understanding of relevant codes, standards, and quality systems.
• Willingness to lift up to 50 lbs and work in shipyard environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed inspections on welds and fabrications to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
• Supervise welders on shop floor or offsite projects and enforce procedures and safety rules.
• Maintain accurate inspection, maintenance, and testing records.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and project timelines.
• Verify structural integrity of welds to required dimensions.
• Collaborate with production to resolve quality or safety issues.
• Audit welding equipment and materials for condition and readiness.
• Implement continuous improvement to enhance efficiency and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform detailed inspections on new welds and fabrications, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
• Supervise welders on the shop floor or offsite projects, ensuring that they adhere strictly to welding procedures and safety regulations.
• Maintain accurate records of inspection, maintenance, and testing.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
• Ensure structural integrity of welds to precise dimensions.
• Collaborate with production and project management teams to resolve quality or safety issues related to weld operations.
• Conduct audits on welding equipment and materials to verify condition for use.
• Implement continuous improvement practices to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Work with external regulatory bodies and clients to demonstrate compliance with external safety and quality audits.
• Follow all shipyard safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE including respirators, fall protection, and fire-resistant clothing.
• Work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions as necessary.

Essential Skills:

• Extensive welding experience and understanding of weld processes.
• Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
• Proficiency in visual inspection and non-destructive testing methods.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
• Strong familiarity with codes and specifications.
• Strong understanding of metal types, welding techniques, and fabrication tools.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and stand for long periods.
• Welding certification (e.g., AWS, ASME, WABO).
• Active Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification (AWS).

Physical and Environmental Demands:

• The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities.
• Job duties are performed in production areas and onboard vessels and require:
• The ability to walk to and from job sites, climb inclined stairways, and use vertical ladders.
• Frequent bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands/fingers for various tasks.
• Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling.
• Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
• The ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation.
• The ability to enter and work in confined spaces, such as manholes.
• The ability to work at heights.
• Frequent use of a respirator.
• Wearing required safety gear, including a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing.
• Regular exposure to noise from machinery and equipment.

Hiring Requirements:

All new hires must pass a weld test and are subject to pre-employment drug screenings, background checks, and E-Verify in accordance with federal law. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and be at least 18 years of age.

Pay and Benefits:

• $40 - $45 / hour
• Full time, overtime non-exempt position
