Job summary

Fenagh Engineering and Testing in the Los Angeles area is seeking a highly motivated Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to join our team. You will perform welding inspections, QA evaluations, and code compliance verifications on structural steel, infrastructure, commercial, and industrial projects.

Qualifications

• Current AWS CWI certification required.
• At least 3 years of welding inspection experience in structural steel, construction, fabrication, or related industries.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and welding symbols.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Responsibilities

• Perform visual welding inspections per project specifications and codes.
• Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and fabrication practices.
• Conduct inspections of structural steel fabrication and erection activities.
• Review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records.
• Monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with AWS, AISC, ASTM, and project-specific requirements.
• Document inspection findings and prepare detailed inspection reports.
• Coordinate with project managers, contractors, engineers, fabricators, and owners regarding inspection results and corrective actions.
• Evaluate weld discontinuities and recommend corrective measures.
• Witness nondestructive testing (NDT) activities as required.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure timely submission of reports.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical guidance related to welding quality control.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies and OSHA regulations.

The successful candidate will perform welding inspections, quality assurance evaluations, and code compliance verification on a variety of structural steel, infrastructure, commercial, and industrial projects. This position requires extensive field work, strong technical knowledge of welding standards, and excellent communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Verify welding procedures, welder qualifications, and fabrication practices.

Required Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of welding inspection experience in structural steel, construction, fabrication, or related industries.
• Thorough knowledge of:
• AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code – Steel
• AWS D1.5 Bridge Welding Code
• AISC requirements
• Applicable ASTM standards
• ICC Special Inspection requirements
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and welding symbols.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and digital reporting software.
• Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to travel throughout the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area and surrounding regions.
