Job summary

CTL Engineering, Inc. is seeking a Certified Welding Inspector to join our Construction Quality Assurance division in Ohio. The role focuses on welding inspection across building sites, bridges and fabrication shops, with opportunities to test welds and assess procedure qualifications.

The candidate should be able to read drawings, prepare clear reports, and travel to job sites within Ohio, with occasional Saturdays and night work as needed.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience (with an Applied Science or Technical Degree) or five years (no degree) in steel inspection or quality control inspection.
• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required within 1 year or ability to obtain.
• ICC certification in Structural Steel Welding or Bolting is preferred.
• ASNT Level II UT/MT/PT preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspection services on building construction sites, bridges and fabrication shops.
• Conduct steel testing in Materials Laboratory, including welder performance and procedure qualifications, bolts and anchor rods, load testing of assemblies.
• Work on construction sites including elevated platforms, manlifts, scaffolds and swing stages during inspection activities.
• Possess ability to work field and office, during non-standard hours as necessary.

We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting and installation, and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for a Certified Welding Inspector who will play a key role in our Construction Quality Assurance division.

Highlights

• Project sites are typically within a (1.5) hour radius of Columbus - most projects are in Franklin county and the surrounding counties.
• A company truck can be provided or you can use your personal vehicle and receive a competitive reimbursement.
• The typical schedule is Monday-Friday - day shift primarily (@7am-5pm).
• If bad weather affects the timeline, some Saturdays may be needed to meet our clients project schedules.
• Night time work may occur occasionally but we strive to give as much advance notice of possible so you can plan accordingly.

Responsibilities

• Steel testing as needed in our Materials Laboratory, including testing of welder performance and procedure qualifications, high strength bolts and anchor rods, load testing of assemblies, etc.
• Be willing and able to work on construction sites, including elevated platforms, manlifts, scaffolds and swing stages, while performing inspection activities.
• May be required to perform job duties in the field and office, during non-standard work hours, as necessary.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills/Abilities

• Three years of experience (with an Applied Science or Technical Degree) or five years (no degree) in steel inspection or quality control inspection testing
• Required Certification :
• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or ability to obtain within 1 year
• Preferred Certification(s) :
• ICC certification in the Structural Steel Welding or Bolting
• American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification UT, MT, PT
• Demonstrated ability to read and apply contract drawings, specifications, and building code reviews.
• Ability to prepare reports summarizing observations and findings associated with the work performed.
• Must possess the physical strength and agility to get to areas on steel structure work environment to complete required inspection duties.
• Must have strong written and oral communication skills, be able to work in a team environment as well as independently, demonstrate team-oriented approach to problem-solving, and have strong interpersonal skills for contact with clients, contractors, and fellow Team members (Engineers/Technicians).
• Possesses the ability to be accurate, dependable, and display strong organizational skills.
• Possesses good time management skills, ability to manage multiple assignments at any given time, and has ability to work in a team environment.
• Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Must possess an acceptable driving record and be willing to travel to and conduct field work at job sites in Ohio.
