Job summary

SOCOTEC, Inc. is seeking an experienced AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform shop and field inspections of structural steel welding, bolting, and NDT coordination on commercial, industrial and public works projects in the San Jose area.

The role requires reading drawings, ensuring compliance with AWS codes, documenting findings, and traveling to project sites throughout the region. Start date early 2027; salary range $50-60/hour with benefits and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction quality assurance, welding inspection, or related construction services.
• Knowledge of structural steel welding, bolting, and AWS codes and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and building code requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project documentation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to complete background screening and drug testing, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Communicate inspection findings and project updates to project managers, contractors, engineers, and client representatives.
• Identify and document non-conforming work and verify corrective actions when required.
• Travel to project sites as needed to support inspection activities throughout the region.
• Perform inspections in accordance with company quality standards and safety procedures.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to perform structural steel inspection services on commercial, industrial, and public works construction projects. The successful candidate will conduct shop and field inspections of structural steel welding, bolting, and nondestructive testing activities while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and project requirements.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction quality assurance, welding inspection, special inspections, or related construction services.
• Thorough knowledge of structural steel welding, bolting, and applicable AWS codes and standards.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and building code requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate project documentation.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and organizational skills.
• Willingness and ability to travel for project assignments.
• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to successfully complete background screening and drug testing requirements, if applicable.

Preferred Qualifications (optional)

• ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector Certification.
• NDT certifications (MT, PT, RT, VT, or other Level II/III certifications).
• ICC Structural Steel and Bolting Special Inspector certification.
• Experience performing inspections on large commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or public works projects.

Additional Information

Salary range: $50-60/hour, depending on qualifications

Start date would be at the beginning of 2027
