Join a Growing Modular Manufacturing Team
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) to support the manufacturing of high-quality modular structures and welded assemblies. This position is responsible for ensuring welding operations meet applicable codes, engineering requirements, quality standards, and customer expectations throughout the fabrication process.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with strong structural welding inspection experience who is passionate about quality, compliance, and continuous improvement. This role offers significant growth potential as our quality and compliance programs continue to expand.
Position Overview
The Certified Welding Inspector will perform inspections of welded components and assemblies during fabrication and final production stages. Working closely with production personnel, engineering, and quality teams, the CWI will ensure all welds and welded structures conform to approved drawings, welding procedures, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
This position serves as the primary technical resource for welding quality within the facility and plays a critical role in delivering safe, code-compliant, and customer-ready modular products.
Key Responsibilities
Welding Inspection & Quality Control
- Perform visual inspections of welded components and assemblies throughout fabrication and final assembly.
- Verify compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ), and applicable welding codes.
- Inspect structural steel frames, skids, lifting assemblies, equipment supports, and modular building components.
- Identify, document, and report welding nonconformances and quality issues.
- Verify corrective actions and repair activities are completed in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Conduct dimensional and workmanship inspections as required.
Quality Assurance Activities
- Perform receiving, in-process, and final inspections.
- Maintain accurate inspection reports and quality records.
- Verify compliance with fabrication drawings, engineering documents, specifications, and quality procedures.
- Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action activities.
- Support internal audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
Welding Program Support
- Maintain welder qualification and continuity records.
- Assist in the administration of welding quality programs and procedures.
- Support training initiatives related to welding quality and inspection requirements.
- Monitor welding consumable storage and handling practices.
- Assist with calibration and maintenance verification of inspection equipment.
Compliance & Regulatory Support
- Assist with Third-Party Inspection Agency (TPIA) inspections.
- Support compliance with modular construction and industrialized building requirements.
- Participate in customer, regulatory, and certification audits as required.
- Promote adherence to company safety policies and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 3 years of welding inspection experience.
- Experience inspecting structural steel fabrication and welded assemblies.
- Ability to read and interpret welding symbols, fabrication drawings, and engineering documents.
- Working knowledge of FCAW, GMAW, and SMAW welding processes.
- Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in modular construction, industrialized building manufacturing, or heavy structural fabrication.
- Knowledge of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.
- Additional NDT certifications such as VT, PT, MT, or UT.
- Experience supporting TPIA inspections and regulatory compliance programs.
- Previous involvement in quality management or continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bilingual (Spanish and English)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform inspections throughout a manufacturing facility.
- Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in fabrication, assembly, and outdoor environments as required.
