Job summary

SPX Technologies, a leader in HVAC, detection, and engineered solutions, seeks a Certified Weld Inspector to standardize welding processes and drive quality across Cooling Operations. You will act as the technical authority on welding standards, support manufacturing and engineering teams, and align with customer and regulatory requirements globally.

The role emphasizes developing global welding programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, with travel to multiple manufacturing sites

Qualifications

  • Extensive welding engineering experience and knowledge of welding quality systems.
  • Experience developing welding standards, procedures, and certification programs.
  • Working knowledge of AWS, ASME, ISO welding codes and standards.
  • Experience performing welding audits, inspections, RCA, and corrective actions.
  • Able to lead cross-functional teams and multi-site programs.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the global subject matter expert for welding processes, standards, and compliance across Cooling Operations.
  • Develop and maintain global welding standards, procedures, specifications, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with welding codes and customer/regulatory standards.
  • Maintain welding certifications, qualifications, and documentation across sites.
  • Lead qualification and certification programs for welders and procedures.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain to improve welding quality and manufacturability.
  • Conduct welding audits, process assessments, and compliance reviews.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for welding issues.
  • Support new product introductions, transfers, and manufacturing expansion requiring welding expertise.
  • Identify welding process improvements to boost quality, productivity, safety, and cost.
  • Develop welding quality metrics and KPIs; lead continuous improvement programs.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Support supplier qualification and welding process evaluations as needed.
  • Lead welding-related risk assessments and mitigation plans.

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

The Certified Weld Inspector will provide enterprise-wide welding expertise across all Cooling Operations sites. This role is responsible for developing, standardizing, and governing welding processes, certifications, quality requirements, and compliance programs to ensure consistent execution, product quality, and operational excellence. The position serves as the technical authority for welding standards, supports manufacturing and engineering teams, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures alignment with customer, industry, and regulatory requirements across the global Cooling organization.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

  • Serve as the global subject matter expert for welding processes, standards, certifications, and compliance requirements across Cooling Operations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain global welding standards, procedures, specifications, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable welding codes, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain welding certifications, qualifications, and documentation requirements across all manufacturing sites.
  • Lead qualification and certification programs for welders, welding operators, and welding procedures.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to improve welding quality, consistency, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct welding audits, process assessments, and compliance reviews across manufacturing locations.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions related to welding quality issues and customer concerns.
  • Support new product introductions, product transfers, and manufacturing expansion initiatives requiring welding expertise.
  • Identify and implement welding process improvements to improve quality, productivity, safety, and cost performance.
  • Develop and monitor welding quality metrics, compliance KPIs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical training, coaching, and guidance to manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams.
  • Support supplier qualification and welding process evaluations as required.
  • Lead welding-related risk assessments and ensure effective mitigation plans are implemented.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Extensive experience in welding engineering, welding quality, manufacturing engineering, or related technical disciplines.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, fabrication methods, metallurgy, and manufacturing quality systems.
  • Experience developing and implementing welding standards, procedures, and certification programs.
  • Working knowledge of AWS, ASME, ISO, and other applicable welding codes and standards.
  • Experience performing welding audits, inspections, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain organizations.
  • Strong communication and training capabilities.
  • Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing environments.

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Experience within HVAC, cooling systems, industrial equipment, pressure vessels, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting global manufacturing operations.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience.
  • Experience implementing welding automation and advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Experience supporting supplier quality and welding qualification programs.

Education & Certifications

  • Associate's degree, technical degree, or equivalent experience in welding, manufacturing, engineering technology, quality, or related field preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline preferred.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) required.
  • Additional AWS certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive welding, fabrication, quality, or manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to travel up to 40% across Cooling Operations manufacturing locations.
  • Combination of manufacturing plants, engineering offices, and customer/supplier environments.
