Job summary

Tender Care Animal Hospital in Peoria, Illinois is seeking an experienced Lead Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) to join our team and provide dedicated support for surgery, anesthesia, and dental procedures. This is a full-time role with autonomy, trust, and collaboration in a fast-paced practice.

You will lead anesthesia induction, monitoring, dental prophylaxis, radiography, and client education, helping ensure high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of veterinary technician experience.
  • Proficient in anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery.
  • Surgical assistance and aseptic technique.
  • Dental prophylaxis and radiography experience.
  • Venipuncture and IV catheter placement.
  • Radiology positioning and safety protocols.
  • Accurate medication calculations and documentation.
  • Strong client communication and education.

Responsibilities

  • Support efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows.

Job description

Tender Care Animal Hospital in Peoria, Illinoisis seeking an experiencedLead Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT)to join our team and providededicated support for surgery, anesthesia, and dental procedures.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technician who wants tofully utilize their skillset with autonomy, trust, and supportin a fast-paced, collaborative general practice environment. From induction through recovery, you will play a critical role in delivering safe, efficient, high-quality patient care alongside a veterinary team that values skilled technicians.

In this position, you will take an active role in:

  • Coordinating surgical and dental procedure schedules
  • Calculating and preparing anesthetic medications and drug dosages
  • Inducing, monitoring, and recovering anesthesia patients
  • Performing dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
  • Monitoring patient recovery and ongoing procedural care
  • Guiding clients through patient admission and discharge with confidence and compassion

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting efficient exam room, outpatient, surgical, and dental workflows
  • Performing anesthesia induction, monitoring, and recovery
  • Assisting in surgery
  • Performing dental procedures, including prophylaxis and radiography
  • Maintaining accurate, detailed medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Identifying patient concerns and supporting efficient case management across the hospital
  • Building strong client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service

Schedule and compensation:

Compensation: $18 - $25 per hour, for each hour worked

This is a full-time position, with a 5/8 schedule and availability needed Monday-Saturday. Saturdays are on rotation.

Full-time Benefits Package*:

  • Bonus package: $2000 based on active, good-standing veterinary technician credentials in the state of Illinois.
  • CE allowance: $500-$1,000 based on tenure and credentials

Minimum qualifications and skill set:

  • 3+ years of veterinary technician experience
    • Patient assessment, nursing care, and monitoring
    • Anesthetic induction, monitoring, and recovery
    • Surgical assistance and aseptic technique
    • Heavy on Dental prophylaxis and dental radiography
    • Venipuncture and intravenous catheter placement
    • Radiology positioning and safety protocols
    • Medication administration and accurate drug calculations
    • Laboratory sample collection and in-house diagnostic testing
    • Client education and communication
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Strong critical thinking and attention to detail
    • Commitment to high‑quality patient care and continuous learning

**Recent graduates pending VTNE testing and licensure, or out-of-state license-holders who are eligible to transfer a license, are also encouraged to apply
