Job summary

Animal Medical Center in Brookhaven, Mississippi is seeking a certified veterinary technician to join our mixed animal practice. You will contribute to high‑quality care for companion and farm animals, working with our team of four veterinarians and dedicated support staff.

Responsibilities include triage and nursing care, lab work, radiographs and anesthesia monitoring, client communication, and surgical preparation and assistance, with opportunities for ongoing training and professional growth.

Qualifications

  • Certified veterinary technician with relevant state licensure or registration.
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude in a team.
  • Punctual, reliable and able to arrive on time.
  • Some Saturday morning shift availability.
  • Excellent client communication and ability to accurately record client history.
  • Ability to interpret medical records and manage patient data.
  • Knowledge of preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow.
  • Ability to restrain pets safely; large animal restraint is a plus.
  • Proficiency in collecting blood, urine, fecal and skin samples.
  • Proficiency in positioning and capturing radiographs.

Responsibilities

  • Triage incoming patients and provide nursing care.
  • Administer medications and assist in anesthesia management.
  • Perform lab analysis and prepare samples for testing.
  • Capture diagnostic radiographs and assist with dental imaging.
  • Communicate treatment plans clearly to clients.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and assist during procedures.

Animal Medical Center located in Brookhaven, Mississippi is here for the needs of your small and large animals. Our hospital strives to combine our knowledge of animal medicine with our experience and state-of-the-art quality care. Our doctors and staff pride themselves on taking the greatest possible care of your pet or farm animal. Animal Medical Center’s goal is to continually surpass your animal care expectations, while providing compassionate treatment for your pet.

Our practice is considered a mixed animal practice, as we primarily work with companion animals, but also work with local farm and other large animals. Our experienced team consists of four full‑time veterinarians, three certified veterinary technicians, four animal caretakers, and three receptionists, all ready to assist you and your pet.

Our hours of operation are:

  • Mon‑Fri: 7:30am-12:00pm & 1:00pm-5:30pm
  • Sat: 8:00am-12:00pm
  • Closed on Sundays
Job Description

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

Animal restraint, triage of incoming patients, collection and analysis of lab samples, diagnostic imaging, management and nursing care of medical and hospitalized cases with varying degrees of stability, administration of medications, effective communication of treatment plans with clients, surgical preparation and assistance, and anesthetic management.

Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

Qualifications

We’re looking for:

  • A certified veterinary technician, 1+ year experience preferred but not required
  • A high work ethic and positive attitude team member
  • Ability to arrive on‑time and ready to work
  • Some Saturday morning shift availability
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely
  • Interpret medical records and record client history accurately
  • Knowledge in preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow
  • Ability to restrain pets in a low‑stress and safe manner, large animal restraint knowledge is a plus but not required
  • Proficient in sample collection to include blood samples, urine, fecal, and skin
  • Ability to properly set‑up and process laboratory samples and tests
  • Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs, positioning for dental radiographs are a plus
  • Proficient in anesthesia and surgical monitoring
  • A self‑starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset
  • Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency
