Job summary

Yorktown Central School District is seeking a Certified Teaching Assistant to support instructional activities under the supervision of a Certified Teacher in our district.

The CTA will assist in individual and group instruction, help prepare and manage instructional materials, and support a safe, inclusive classroom environment in collaboration with teaching staff.

Qualifications

• NYSD Certification Level I required; Level III within 4 years of appointment.
• Completion of required state workshops: Child Abuse Detection & Reporting, School Violence Prevention, and DASA.
• CTA/TA contract position.

Responsibilities

• Work with individual students or groups on instructional projects.
• Provide the teacher with information to tailor learning and behavioral experiences.
• Assist students in using instructional resources and develop materials.
• Assist in instructional programs across subjects such as languages, arts, crafts, music.
• Assist in related instructional duties as required.
• Assist students with health-related activities as appropriate.
• Maintain instructional materials and records for mandated requirements.
• Perform general clerical tasks to help the teacher prepare materials.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Certified Teaching Assistants (CTAs) provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a Certified Teacher.

Minimum Qualifications

• NYSD Certification as a Level I Teaching Assistant (Must obtain Level III within 4 years of appointment. Recommendations for extension of Level I will only be made if all requirements for Level II have been met except the required work experience).
• Completion of required state workshops, IE. Child Abuse Detection & Reporting, School Violence Prevention, and DASA.

Primary Activities

• Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects.
• Provide the teacher with information about students which will assist the teacher in the development of appropriate learning and behavioral experiences.
• Assist students in the use of available instructional resources, and assist in the development of instructional materials.
• Utilize own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as: foreign languages, arts, crafts, music and similar subjects.
• Assist in related instructional work as required.
• Assist students with specific health related activities as appropriate.
• Maintains instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records (e.g. lessons, attendance, pencils, paper, teaching supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing written reports, or meeting mandated requirements.
• Performs general clerical tasks for the purpose of helping the teacher get instructional materials ready.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
