Job description

Mission

It is the mission of the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) to impact and transform young lives, strengthen families, and support safer communities through targeted prevention and rehabilitation.

Job Purpose

Under limited supervision, provides classroom instruction for all students according to their individual needs and designs curriculum in accordance with SC State Standards and vocational curriculum competencies.

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepares lesson content and instructional activities to improve students’ content knowledge, mastery of skills and to increase overall content knowledge.
  • Engages in best practices to deliver instructional content – specific lessons and instruction to students at multiple education sites by means of established instructional delivery platforms, in the least restrictive environment in accordance with state and federal regulations, demonstrating technology proficiency in using district-endorsed instructional applications.
  • Establishes clear communication with students, site facilitators, and all personnel.
  • Advances the mission and vision of the School District and the Agency.
  • Displays professionalism and leadership by following established school, agency, state and federal policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Minimum & Additional Requirements

Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university. Must be certified or eligible to be certified within the subject area by the State Department of Education.

  • Must possess S.C. teacher certification.
  • Has knowledge of the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Is able to comprehend, interpret and apply regulations, procedures and related information.
  • Has knowledge of the principles of planning and implementing lesson plans.
  • Limited overnight travel.
  • This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
