Job summary

AdventHealth Burleson is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team in a per diem Day shift. You will anticipate surgeon needs, assemble supplies, maintain aseptic technique, and monitor patient safety in a fast-paced surgical environment.

The role requires effective English communication, knowledge of sterile instrumentation, and compliance with regulatory standards. Associates or tech/vocational training preferred; BLS required; two years experience preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Anticipate surgeon needs and inform circulating nurse during procedures.
  • Assemble supplies, equipment, and medications prior to procedures.
  • Support satisfaction activities and maintain relationships with physicians and staff.
  • Monitor aseptic technique and correct any safety breaks.
  • Identify and report environmental concerns and ensure policy compliance.
  • Supervise other team members and assist with orientation and training.
  • Promote a safe environment and manage hazards in emergencies.
  • Adhere to infection control practices and CDC guidelines.
  • Participate in quality improvement and department initiatives.
  • Provide assistance to surgical team and support turnover times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description:

Schedule: Shift will be PRN Days from 6:00 AM-2:30 PM

  • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and keeps the circulating nurse informed throughout a procedure.
  • Maintains high standards and quality in facilitating cost savings and containment.
  • Assembles all necessary supplies, equipment, and medications prior to the procedure.
  • Supports customer and employee satisfaction activities; maintains good relationships with physicians, management, other departments, and staff; and responds to complaints in a timely manner.
  • Monitors aseptic technique of the entire surgical team and takes immediate corrective action for any breaks in technique.
  • Identifies and reports environmental concerns to management and ensures adherence to regulatory standards and policies.
  • Supervises other healthcare team members in the surgical environment and assists with orientation, training, and education of new personnel.
  • Promotes a safe environment and takes appropriate action in emergency situations, controlling hazards that may endanger patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Follows CDC isolation guidelines, uses PPE appropriately, and performs hand washing according to policy, adhering to all infection control practices.
  • Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities and supports departmental quality standards and initiatives.
  • Provides assistance and support to members of the surgical team as needed.
  • Assists the team with safe and efficient operating room turnover times and directs ancillary personnel during room turnover.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements. [Required]
  • Basic skills related to aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation. [Required]
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the healthcare industry. [Required]
  • Up-to-date knowledge of surgical instruments and supplies to hand surgeons the correct tools during surgeries. [Required]
  • Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and laws at various jurisdictional levels. [Required]
  • Ability to understand and process surgeon dictated instructions and directions. [Required]
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office. [Required]
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate clear communication skills, strong anticipatory skills, and concentration to detail. [Required]
  • Assembly of mechanical devices and knowledge of fundamental human anatomy. [Required]
  • Must be able to work well with multiple team members. [Required]
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule and adapt to change. [Required]
  • Organizational skills, customer relations, verbal and interpersonal skills. [Required]
  • Proficiency in grammar/spelling, and the ability to read/comprehend written instructions and follow verbal instructions. [Required]
  • Keyboarding (manual) and computer (visual) skills. [Required]
  • Ability to multitask and possess excellent communication skills. [Required]
Education:

Field of Study:
  • Currently enrolled or successful completion of an approved/accredited school for Surgical Technology
Work Experience:
  • 2+ years of technical experience in the field [Preferred]
  • 1+ years relevant experience [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
