Job summary

Seton Medical Center Harker Heights seeks a day shift, full-time Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join our operating team in Harker Heights, TX. You will perform scrub and circulating duties, prepare for procedures, and assist the RN circulator to ensure patient safety and smooth surgical flow.

Candidates should have a CST certification, a surgical technologist program completion, and a willingness to work in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or equivalent and completion of a surgical technologist program or equivalent training.
• CST certification by NBSTSA or NCCT, or employed to practice surgical technology before Sep 1, 2009.
• BLS certification within 14 days of hire.
• Familiar with endoscopy equipment and related computerized systems.

Responsibilities

• Assist in patient care and preparation of surgical patients per center standards.
• Perform scrub duties and assist circulating duties under RN supervision.
• Prepare for procedures by ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are ready.
• Handle instruments, needles, sharps, sponges, and maintain sterile field counts.
• Maintain supplies and equipment; update surgeon’s preference cards as needed.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for assisting in patient care and preparation of surgical patients by performing routine and delegated duties according to standards and policies of the surgical center.
• Perform scrub duties and related procedures. Assist with circulating duties under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) circulator assigned to the patient.
• Prepares for scheduled, emergent, urgent, and add-on operative procedures by ensuring necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are available and ready for use.
• Handles surgical instruments, needles, sharps, sponges, and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
• Maintains an accurate count of sponges, needles, sharps, instruments, drugs, and fluids on the sterile field.
• Assist with cleaning and maintenance of supplies and equipment as required.
• Suggests and ensures changes are made to the surgeon’s preference cards as approved to include supplies, equipment, positioning devices, and performs other related duties.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a surgical technologist program or military and/or hospital conducted on-the-job training.
• Successful completion of a surgical technologist program or military and/or hospital conducted on-the-job training.
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or have been employed to practice surgical technology before September 1, 2009.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
• Must be familiar with computerized technology associated with endoscopy equipment

Preferred Requirements

• 2 years’ experience as a surgical technologist.
• Experience with patient safety best practices.
• Training as an endoscopy technician with a hospital background.
