Job summary

Holy Cross Hospital Salt Lake is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech to assist the surgical team in maintaining a sterile, organized operating room and ensuring safe, efficient procedures. You will handle instruments, assist in patient prep, and help prepare back tables and supplies for cases.

The role requires current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm in a fast-paced environment while communicating effectively with surgeons and nursing

Qualifications

  • Current Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
  • Certification NBSTSA or NCCT as Surgical Tech
  • Active surgical tech certification and state/regulatory registration (Colorado note for some roles)

Responsibilities

  • Arrange and inventory sterile instruments and supplies for procedures
  • Pass instruments to surgeons and nurses during operations
  • Prepare and move patients, sterilize equipment between cases
  • Maintain sterile technique and assist with readiness of OR for procedures
  • Respond to on-call needs per department policy

Job Summary And Responsibilities

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Every day, you will arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also assist in preparing and moving patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.

To be successful in this role, you will need current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, solid knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast‑paced surgical team.

  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed and as needed.
  • Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon’s preference card.
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
  • Provides on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
  • Anticipates possible problems or complications that could arise during case. Adjusts quickly and prepares for emergent cases that change workflow.

We are offering up to $10,000 relocation assistance to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements

Schedule & Hours

Schedule: 40hrs/week Days-Variable shifts per surgical volume and unit needs.

Call Required: Approx.. 5-7 Call shifts per 6-week schedule

30Min Call back radius required.

Job Requirements
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
  • Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
  • Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado. * A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous OR Experience highly preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting
  • Experience in a specialty field
Where You'll Work

As a Surgical Technologist at Holy Cross Hospital Salt Lake, you will provide support in a 10-suite surgical department averaging 350–400 cases per month. You will scrub for a diverse range of specialties—including Neuro, Ortho (trauma/totals), Bariatrics, ENT, and Plastics—as well as support Endoscopy, the Cath Lab, and IV therapy. There are no service teams, team members are cross trained to cover all services. $26.06 - $38.76 /hour
