Job summary

Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis, IL is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (FT) to maintain the sterile field and support the surgical team during procedures.

The successful candidate will be the primary scrub for operative cases, assist circulating staff, prepare and pass instruments, and help ensure a safe peri-operative environment. CST certification and BLS are required, with at least one year of CST experience.

CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECH - FT

SUMMARY: Maintain sterile field in operating room being vigilant that proper aseptic techniques are utilized to prevent contamination and infection. Serve as primary scrub person for operative procedures and assist in circulating to contribute to peri-operative care of surgical patient. Assist surgical team as sterile member who passes instruments, sutures and sponges during surgery. Maintain clean and safe environment for patients and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
  1. Assist in operating room set up in accordance with surgeon preference card and organize sterile table with surgical instruments and equipment, sterile linens and solutions. Keep card current to any changes.
  2. Check, adjust and operate equipment such as sterilizers, lights, suction machines, electrosurgical units and diagnostic equipment and automatic endoscope reprocess
  3. Maintain supply of fluids such as plasma, saline, blood and glucose for use during operation and be competent to handle and identify medication
  4. Prepare patient for surgery by washing, shaving and disinfecting incision sites.
  5. Transport and position patient on table and cover with sterile surgical drapes.
  6. Scrub up and wear sterile operating room attire to work within sterile field around patient and handle sterilized instruments, equipment and supplies used in procedures.
  7. Anticipate need of surgeon, pass instruments and provide sterile items in efficient manner.
  8. Prepare and dispense supplies, instruments, disposable and reusable equipment, dressings and treatment trays.
  9. Report significant changes to OR supervisor/
  10. Assist with preparation, care and disposal of specimens taken for lab analysis, hold retractors, cut sutures and apply dressings as directed.
  11. Properly handle or dispose of contaminated instruments, equipment and sharps.
  12. Assist physicians performing procedures within the Endo room by anticipating and providing items in an efficient manner.
  13. Function well under stressful conditions involving operating room atmosphere, patients, family, physicians, other departments and entities, workload, etc.
  14. Report or update nurses or manager on patient care issues or problems to correct or monitor.
  15. Exhibit emotional maturity and stability needed for OR environment.
  16. Demonstrate knowledge of operative procedure including draping and instrumentation and selection of suture material appropriate for tissue and procedure.
  17. Clean and restock operating room after performing inventory.
  18. Perform all cleaning duties as outlined in the housekeeping log book. Keep the Housekeeping log current by initialing and dating each task. Be vigilant in maintain a clean and safe environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: CST and BLS required.

EXPERIENCE: 1 year experience as CST

SHIFT:Monday-Friday 7am-3:30pm
