Job summary

Longmont United Hospital is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to support a high-volume OR team in Colorado. You will ensure a sterile environment, assist surgeons and nurses, and prepare bodies of patients for procedures. Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current DORA registration as surgical technologist in Colorado.
  • NBSTSA certification or NCCT certification required.

  • Perform counts with circulator before incision, before closure, and as needed.
  • Prepare back table and mayo stand per surgeon's preference card.

  • Anticipate problems and adjust for emergent cases to protect patient safety.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.

Every day, you will arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also assist in preparing and moving patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.

To be successful in this role, you will need current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, solid knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast‑paced surgical team.

  • Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.
  • Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed and as needed.
  • Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon’s preference card.
  • Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
  • Provides on‑call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
  • Anticipates possible problems or complications that could arise during case. Adjusts quickly and prepares for emergent cases that change workflow.

Schedule- PRN- Variable days of week and start times per Surgical Volume and Current Unit needs. TBD with OR manager during interviews.

Per policy PRN requires a Min availability for 5 shifts in a 6 week schedule block and 2 holiday per year

15% PRN Differential added to base rate

Call required- Approximately 120 hours of call are required per 6 weeks

30min call back radius required

Job Requirements
Required
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
  • Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
  • Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado.
  • A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech.
  • Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Preferred
  • One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting
  • Experience in a specialty field
  • Previous OR experience highly preffered
Where You'll Work

As a Surgical Technologist at Longmont United Hospital, you will play a vital role in our high‑volume surgical department, which handles 200–250+ cases monthly across six OR suites. You will work in a cross‑trained environment, scrubbing into a diverse range of specialties, including General, Ortho (Totals/Trauma), Neuro, OB/GYN, ENT, Urology, and Robotics (DaVinci XI and MAKO). Your daily responsibilities include managing the sterile field, performing accurate counts, preparing instrument setups, and actively anticipating surgeon needs via preference cards. You will also provide essential support through room turnovers, restocking, and rotating on‑call coverage to ensure seamless workflow and patient safety during both routine and emergent procedures.

Pay Range

$28.80 - $47.52 /hour
