DRISCOLL HEALTH PLAN is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to assist the surgeon and OR team in pediatric and adult cases. The role requires scrub competency, adherence to sterile technique, and strong teamwork to maintain a safe, efficient operating room.

The ideal candidate has completed an accredited Surgical Technology program, is CPR certified, and holds or will obtain national certification. This on-site position emphasizes patient confidentiality and collaboration with the surgical

Qualifications

  • Requires completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Pediatric scrub tech experience preferred.
  • Current national certification as a surgical technologist (or within 180 days of graduation).
  • CPR certification (American Heart Association BLS) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains confidentiality at all times and adheres to hospital policies.
  • Assists surgical team before, during, and after procedures, including setup and cleanup.
  • Demonstrates scrub competency and uses equipment safely at the sterile field.
  • Communicates effectively to ensure a positive work environment and teamwork.
  • Transports instruments and participates in unit process improvement activities.

General Purpose of Job:

A certified technologist assists the surgeon and other professional and technical personnel in carrying out Operating Room and Surgical functions. Assisted care is administered under the direct supervision of the professional operating room nurse. The patient care population includes infants, children, adolescents, and adults.

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

  • Questions surgeon before procedure for any anticipated variances in particular procedures.
  • Is knowledgeable of setup and usage of service equipment
  • Uses sterilizers effectively and can verbalize knowledge of systems.
  • Maintains a safe environment for the patient, physician and staff at sterile field, as well as throughout the OR.
  • Sets up room appropriately for procedure
  • Takes into account size of patient in selection of supplies, equipment
  • Breaks down room after procedure utilizing standard precautions
  • Assists surgical team before, during and after surgical intervention, including cleanup and getting patients when needed.
  • Assists in maintenance, care and cleanliness of department, supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  • Handles instruments, equipment in a manner that minimizes breakage, damage
  • Reports damage, breakage and removes item from usage.
  • Transports instruments back to decontamination in closed carts following cases.
  • Is knowledgeable of process improvement activities in unit and assists as requested
  • Participates in staff meeting on a routine basis
  • Utilizes self directed learning activities to maintain competency and above.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Successful completion of accredited Surgical Technology Program
  • Pediatric scrub tech experience preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current national certification as a surgical technologist. Or within 180 days of graduation if new graduate.
  • Graduation from surgical technologist program and employed as surgical technologist before 2009 in lieu of certification.
  • Completed a surgical technology training program in the military or public health service of the US
  • CPR certified (Required issuer: American Heart Assoc. BLS)
