Job summary

St. Thomas More Hospital is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist to maintain a sterile field, assist surgeons and nurses, and prepare instruments and rooms for surgical procedures. The role includes passing instruments, managing supplies, and supporting patient prep and turnover.

The position requires current Surgical Technology certification, BLS, and CO DORA registration where applicable. Expect 40 hours per week with variable shifts and on-call duties, in a busy OR setting.

Qualifications

• BLS certification from American Heart Association or equivalent.
• Current certification in Surgical Technology from NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Colorado DORA registration for surgical technologists in CO.
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.

Responsibilities

• Maintain highest standard of sterile technique during procedures and check package integrity.
• Perform counts with circulator before incision and as needed.
• Set up sterile table with instruments, supplies, and meds for the procedure.
• Assist in passing instruments and instruments handling for surgeons and nurses.
• Prepare and move patients, and sterilize/ clean equipment and rooms between cases.
• Provide intraoperative assistance and maintain surgeon preference cards.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Certified Surgical Tech, you will work under the supervision of the surgeon and RN, bringing your certified expertise to keep the operating room organized, sterile, and ready for safe, efficient surgical procedures.

Every day, you will arrange and inventory sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical cases, passing items to surgeons and nurses as needed throughout the procedure. You will also assist in preparing and moving patients, along with sterilizing and cleaning instruments, equipment, and rooms between cases.

To be successful in this role, you will need current surgical technology certification, strong attention to detail, solid knowledge of sterile technique, and the ability to stay calm and communicate effectively as part of a fast-paced surgical team.

• Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure by checking package integrity, indicators and opening procedures.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation, before incision is closed and as needed.
• Prepare back table and mayo stand anticipating needs of the surgeon and through the use of the surgeon’s preference card.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
• Provides on-call coverage outside of standard scheduled hours per department and/or facility policy.
• Anticipates possible problems or complications that could arise during case. Adjusts quickly and prepares for emergent cases that change workflow.

Schedule: 40hrs/ week- variable shifts and days of the week per surgical volume and current unit needs. TBD during interview with OR manager.

Call required: average 8-10 call shifts per six-week schedule. Variable per needs/ surgical volume of unit.

Job Requirements

Required

• High School Diploma/G.E.D.
• Completion of an approved Surgical Technician program.
• Current Basic Life Support through the American Heart Association
• Current registration with the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) as a surgical technologist for associates working in Colorado.
• A person performing Surgical Tech functions within the scope of another Colorado license, certification, or registration does not need to register as a Surgical Tech.
• Certification in Surgical Technology from the National Board Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification as a Tech in Surgery from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Preferred

• One (1) year of experience in a surgical setting
• Experience in a specialty field
• Previous OR experience

Where You'll Work

As a Certified Surgical Technologist at St. Thomas More, you will provide essential scrub support in a surgical department that includes 5 OR suites and 2 GI rooms, alongside a unit featuring 10 same-day surgery beds, 7 PACU bays, and 5 infusion bays, managing a daily volume of 10-20+ cases. You will work across a diverse mix of service lines, including Ortho, General, OB/GYN, Urology, and Podiatry. We utilize a cross-trained staffing model, requiring all associates to be prepared to support all areas to ensure optimal operational flexibility. Your daily responsibilities include providing intraoperative assistance by maintaining a sterile field, anticipating surgeon needs, facilitating efficient room turnovers, and preparing necessary materials for the following day’s cases. You will also serve as a key resource for the department by maintaining and updating surgeon preference cards and acting as a dedicated advocate for patient safety and well-being throughout the perioperative experience.

Pay Range

$27.43 - $45.26 /hour
