Job summary

Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, TX is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist II (CST II) to support the operating room team in a full-time, day-shift role.

The CST II will prepare sterile supplies, maintain a sterile field, assist surgeons by passing instruments, and may supervise junior staff. CST certification and current BLS are required. This opportunity offers collaboration with a dedicated surgical team and exposure to diverse specialties.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a CST accredited program required.
• CST certification required on hire; non-certified hires prior to 12/2014 exempt.
• Current BLS (AHA) certificate required on hire.
• Experience scrubbing across multiple surgical specialties is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile supplies and instruments for procedures.
• Maintain sterile field during cases and provide instruments to the surgeon.
• Supervise junior staff and perform primary scrub technician duties.
• Demonstrate proficiency in spine, sports medicine, and orthopedic cases as needed.

We are seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist II (CST II), sometimes referred to as a Surgical Tech II, OR Tech II or Scrub Tech II. The Certified Surgical Technologist II (CST II) prepares the operating room for complex procedures, assists surgeons by passing instruments and maintaining a sterile field, and supervises junior staff. The Certified Surg Tech II will also manage surgical instruments, collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patient safety, and ensure compliance with infection control standards.

Responsibilities

The Certified Surgical Tech II is responsible for the preparation of sterile supplies and instruments for each assigned procedure, maintaining sterile field during case and providing surgeon with sterile supplies and instruments during assigned procedures. The Certified Surgical Tech II is an employee with greater than 1 years’ experience and an employee who is proficient in the following surgical specialties: General Surgery, Urology, Eyes (cataracts), GYN, and Hand specialty, and additionally, demonstrates proficiency and skill in basic spine procedures (Laminectomies), Sports Medicine, and Orthopedic Total Joint Surgery. The employee will demonstrate independent practice in the role of primary scrub technician and will be able to assume the role of camera holder and retractor holder on any case, basic or complicated.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1. Graduate of a Certified Surgical Tech accredited program. (CST) training program with less than one years’ experience in a surgical setting required.

2. Certified Surgical Tech (CST) Certification upon hire required and maintained for employment. a. Non-certified employees hired prior to 12/2014 are exempt from the above requirement.

3. Current BLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.

4. Experience in scrubbing minor and major procedures in the generalized surgical specialties, (General, Urology, Eye (cataracts), Gynecology, Minor Vascular and Hand Specialty. Additionally, demonstrates proficiency and skill in basic spine procedures (Laminectomies), Sports Medicine, and Orthopedic Total Joint Surgery.
