Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI is seeking a Certified Sterilization Technician responsible for disassembling, cleaning and decontaminating instrumentation in the Operating Room and Central Processing area.

The role includes operating sterilizers, assembling instrument trays, monitoring cleanliness and following universal precautions, while supporting junior staff and maintaining supplies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Certification as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician.
• Proficient in Central Sterile processing and sterilization.
• Ability to read and interpret sterilizer parameters and maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, process and assemble surgical instrumentation for Operating Room and Central Processing area.
• Operate prevacuum steam sterilizers, gas plasma sterilizers, washer sterilizers and decontaminators; test sterilizers and maintain records.
• Understand cleaning protocols for particular instruments; use appropriate cleaning agents and detergents.
• Visually inspect instruments for cleanliness, function, and wear before assembly.
• Assemble instrument trays and equipment; wrap or pouch items according to size and type.
• Read and interpret parameters for sterilizers to ensure proper function.
• Oversee junior personnel in the absence of the supervisor.
• Perform minor troubleshooting of equipment and determine when service is needed.
• Maintain a constant supply of reusable sterile linen and distribute sterile supplies.
• Greet/receive customers and answer phone; practice Universal Precautions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

The Certified Sterilization Tech is responsible for disassembling, cleaning and decontamination of instrumentation both in the Operating Room and the Central Processing area.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Decontaminate, clean, inspect, process and assemble surgical instrumentation for the Operating Room, Central Processing area and durable patient care equipment.
• Understand, be responsible and operate prevacuum steam sterilizers, gas plasma sterilizer, washer sterilizers and decontaminators. Testing sterilizers and maintaining accurate records.
• Possess an understanding of cleaning protocols for particular instruments. Familiar with cleaning agents and detergents and use appropriately.
• Visually inspects all instruments for cleanliness, proper function, and wear before assembly.
• Assembles instrument trays and equipment according to assembly directory. Wraps or pouches items according to size and type of instrument or equipment using appropriate wrapping techniques.
• Understands and runs varied and particular tests using internal, external and biological tests. Must be able to read and interpret all parameters for all types of sterilizers to insure proper function.
• Oversees junior personnel in the absence of Supervisor.
• Able to do minor troubleshooting of equipment and determine when professional service technicians are needed.
• Maintain a constant supply of reusable sterile linen.
• Maintain and distribute sterile supplies.
• Greet/receive customers, answer phone.
• Must have knowledge of and practice Universal Precautions.
• Performs all other related duties assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Certification as a Certified Registered Central Sterile Technician
• Proficient in both areas of Central Sterile
• This job is typically required to perform work through eye/hand/foot coordination most of a normal workday.
