Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Certified Sterile Processing Technician to join the Central Sterile Supply team at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center. The role focuses on cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and preparing instruments for safe clinical use while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams.

This night-shift, full-time position involves strict adherence to infection prevention, documentation, and quality improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CRCST certification.
• Membership in Central Sterile Association required.
• Previous sterile processing or healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and patient care equipment.
• Inspect instruments and equipment to ensure cleanliness and proper function for sterilization and clinical use.
• Clean and process patient care equipment to prevent cross-contamination and promote a safe healthcare environment.
• Select appropriate disinfection/sterilization methods per manufacturer recommendations and standards.
• Perform biological monitoring of steam, ETO, and gas plasma sterilization systems to verify parameters.
• Review sterilizer performance tests, maintain documentation, and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Maintain equipment in proper working condition and report concerns as appropriate.
• Collaborate with surgical services, nursing, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely availability of sterile instruments.
• Support a safe, organized Sterile Processing Department and participate in quality improvement and professional development.
