The smallest of the four Duke Health hospitals at 123 beds offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24‑hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties.
A Central Sterile Processing Technician, Certified is responsible for cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and high‑level disinfection of all reusable medical instrumentation. Maintains high standards consistency and continuous product flow between the OR and Sterile Processing. Responsible for maintaining adequate supply levels in sterile storage area, rotating stock as appropriate, and pulling case carts for the daily surgical schedule.
Cleans, decontaminates, assembles, and disinfects scope trays and equipment following established tray lists and manufacturer recommendations. Maintains communication with customers and departments regarding requests and delivery of sterile supplies. Promotes best practice by demonstrating a commitment to quality patient care. Performs assigned duties to maintain the unit in a state of survey readiness and to support quality initiatives, such as quality control measures, emergency equipment checks, and department cleanliness. Uses the computerized instrument tracking system to obtain instrument count sheets and special handling instructions, documents sterilization loads, and performs other assigned tasks. Adheres to unit programs to support patient care, including maintaining a quiet environment and customer service. Efficiently and punctually distributes case carts, equipment, and stat supplies to the OR. Maintains sterility and cleanliness according to hospital protocol, logs equipment out for repair, and tests operational efficiency of instrumentation prior to reprocessing, reporting problems to appropriate leadership. Maintains a clean and orderly central processing area. May assist with teaching new hires and serve as a resource person for other staff and units in the hospital. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
