JOB DESCRIPTION
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
To provide every student in the District with the care necessary to achieve and maintain exemplary health standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
- Maintains accurate health and dental records on each pupil.
- Completes growth, auditory, and visual screenings and reports deviations from the normal standards to the parent and/or family physician.
- Administers first aid to pupils and school personnel according to district policies, procedures, and standing first aid orders.
- Administers prescribed medications to students following direction from a written protocol by a physician.
- Responds to the health needs of students brought to the health room.
- Communicates appropriate information regarding student's health needs and welfare to parents or guardian.
- Schedules physical and dental exams.
- Prepares and maintains required health reports.
- Provides immunizations, tuberculosis testing, exams, and other health programs.
- Communicates health related information to parents and physicians.
- Prepares materials for bulletin boards, exhibits, and displays.
- Provides for the care, storage, inventory, and requisition of equipment and supplies.
- Keeps the health room orderly and attractive.
OTHER DUTIES OF JOB:

- Ability to work with children and understand principles of confidentiality
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Receives instruction from the building administrator and Nurse Department Chairperson.
SUPERVISION GIVEN:
None.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works indoors in adequate workspace, lighting, ventilation, and temperatures.
- Works with average indoor exposure to noise, disruptions, and stress
- Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Must possess hearing, seeing, speaking, smelling, taste perception, and reasoning senses necessary to carry out job duties.
- Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures, and follow instructions.
- Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday with occasional periods of standing, bending, twisting, grasping, kneeling, carrying, pushing/pulling, and reaching necessary to carry out job duties.
- Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands to operate computer keyboard to simple movements of feet/legs, torso necessary to carry out job duties.
- Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of ten pounds.
- Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
- Must be able to apply reasonable skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High School Diploma; RN license; Bachelor's degree in Nursing and PDE Certification; current certificate in First Aide and CPR.
B. WORK EXPERIENCE:
Clinical experience in the medical field

- Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential function of job.

- Must possess the ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to District health information and records.
